Shooting cats in Australia was a weird one. (feral ofcourse)

I knew they needed to be controlled and ethically I had no problem pulling the trigger ... but in times since - when i've told friends the fact - they immediately think I'm longing to drill their fluffy pet Mr. Tiddles with a .303

Also shot Roo's and Emu's in oz but the cats was a wierd one.

Crocodile eggs that I robbed from the nest while their mum was out looking for her lunch. Surprising how fast you can dig with your hands when under a spot of pressure. Had 'em scrambled for breakfast the following day: utterly disgusting.

Years ago the wife and I did a wonderful tour of the Oz east coast. It included a guided tour on a section of the coast near Cairns.

The driver/tour guide/comedian was deadpan about everything. It was hard to tell when he was spinning a yarn or describing a plausible Bananaland cultural truth.

At some point he went on about cane toads, rabbits and that other unwanted immigrant: cats. It was the first time I heard that shooting feral cats was right up there with despatching cane toads.

A little further on he stabbed a finger out the window and pointed at a curbside ginger tom. "Feral cat" he muttered. I innocently asked how he had identified it as "feral". The answer came back flat and emotionless: "its outdoors right?"

In 2002 went to Alask hunting Caribou. Flew in to Anchorage then on to Dillingham then in the Grumman Goose boat plane to land on Nishlisk lake. Camping for 9 days. Sore grizzly bear 🐻. Got my Caribou with a Winchester 30 06. Had him mounted in America then flew him back home and he is now on the wall in the stairwell 😁🦌
