In a word Beretta. Bought Sako and immediately started cost cutting.
Whilst that possibly a cause, the issue is not solely confined to Sako - Browning’s X-Bolts can do it too. Like moderator usage, once sold, the manufacturer has no control over how people clean or look after their stocks. From what I have read, oils and barrel cleaning products are not good for the finish and I’ve always been careful with mine to watch what they are exposed to. Neither my 85 nor X-Bolt have gone sticky. Some may say I’ve been lucky :-|

Why did the original factory stocks have such a basic issue do you know?

It seems to have caused some serious damage to the Sako reputation.

That’s because it’s not Sako at the helm. It’s Beretta that have trashed the brand and quality.
