Varmint barrel on attache r93 ?

Dear all

I am after some advice please ...
Decided to purchase a 6.5x55 barrel to add to my set up primarily for hill stalking...I was initially unsuccessful on the first barrel and seems that for different reasons I may indeed have ended up with an undesirable situation with the second one too for different reasons!
This barrel was described as fluted and clean. Which is both...very pleased with the condition of the barrel.

The problem is that it is a varmint barrel ( not informed of this prior to purchasing- not realized that when I hurriedly picked it up from RfD either although it felt heavy...nor did the RfD state anything other than it was impressively clean...which made me feel relieved...

My problem is that the weight may be a negative currying it up and down the Scottish hills and that I will need to find a different moderator than the ones I have on my standard barrels. BUT most importantly is that I am not sure if it fits/ suited to the attache stock / chassis as when the barrel is applied and secured there is no obvious gap between the wood and the barrel...maybe the flutes hide it but more likely that the barrel is touching...any thoughts would be welcomed....😭😭🙏

Might it be possible to

a) open up the woodwork in order to accommodate the larger diameter barrel and

b) have an insert made to match the existing fore-end on occasions when a more standard barrel is being used, or

c) have a second fore end made.

It should be possible to determine whether the barrel is touching the fore-end and (possibly) having the potential of affecting accuracy by ‘smoking’ the barrel to highlight any points on the fore end where they touch one another? This is a fairly commonly used stocking technique where hand finishing a stock to ensure a close fit between wood and steel parts.

Thank you. It's a shame as the barrel is mint and certainly doubt it has been used at all. A very rare find indeed...
However fiddling with a grd6+ rifle stock ...I feel would not be appropriate although it would solve the "issue"...
Buying another that fits the barrel may be an option...but possibly becomes expensive...not sure the price of r93 rifle stocks...

Selling this semi weight fluted "brand new" barrel may be the most sensible way forward.... luckily I will be off for a couple of weeks so time to ponder which way to go 🤔
