Hi everyone

By means of introduction I am an infantry veteran who only began jumping through the hoops of firearms licensing last year. I received my firearms & shotgun certificate almost exactly 5 years after my retirement from the army.
I was a qualified Range Conducting Officer and firearms coach. as well as a raft of other quals utterly useless in civ div. I was also a marksman for most of my career and have always enjoyed shooting since i was given my first rifle at the age of 7. My area of expertise was GPMG SF which sadly I cannot use now. It was an awesome piece of kit.
I am located near Bolton in Greater Manchester. I am currently restricted to shooting at my club ranges in Rossendale so havent had the opportunity to go stalking yet. This is something I really want to get into but dont know how to start hence my joining you knowledgable lot.
Currently I own a CZ455 22LR, Weatherby Vanguard .308, Lee Enfield .303 Long Branch (which sadly has a blown barrel and I'm in process of deactivating it). and a 12G shotgun. I will be picking up a .44 Special Uberti 1873 underlever as soon as my variations are processed. I have added .357, .44, .45 and .22wmr as variations which should come through this week.
Looking forward to spending many hours trawling through this bastion of knowledge.

Welcome to the vagrancies of the firearms licencing system! Having a membership at a range is always a good thing and can keep your certificate safe and constant regarding "good reason".

As for stalking, the ideal (second to being a landowner) is to have your own permission with deer on it, but to obtain that is often a lot of work and good luck with no promise of success. However, you can always go on paid stalking outings and you'll find people on here who provide that. Not a bad way to get into it because you'll be with an experienced stalker. You might also consider joining a stalking syndicate. However, those can be good or not so good and although I wouldn't say no to doing that, you need to be well aware of what you might be getting into. Good luck.

Stalking is of course a lot different than shooting on a range or armed Forces service use. You can of course travel up the motorway North into Scotland or the Lakes where there are more Stalking Guides. You can with most of these folks Carry an "estate rifle " under an exception of being accompanied by an experienced person .
best to talk these things through rather than type though DM me if your interested
