Wanted: Voluntary Job

My name is Jean-Louis Meire, I am a 20-year-old student from Belgium with a lifelong passion for hunting and wildlife management. I will complete my studies in June 2026, after which I am looking to dedicate a temporary period of 1 to 5 months to gaining hands-on experience in the UK, preferably England or Scotland, in a hunting-related environment. This period would be voluntary and intended purely as a experience.

I hold a Belgian hunting licence for over four years and come from a family where hunting has been an integral part of life for generations. As a result, I have been actively involved in hunting and game management from a very young age. Today, I carry year-round responsibility for the management of a family hunting ground in Belgium, including population monitoring, habitat management, and ethical harvest decisions.

In addition, my family hunt in the Belgian Ardennes, where both driven hunts and stalking of red deer and roe deer are organised. Within this context, I regularly act as a stalker, guiding family members and fellow hunters, identifying the correct animals to be taken in line with management objectives, and ensuring a respectful and ethical approach to the quarry.

Internationally, I hunt several times per year in the United Kingdom, mainly for partridge shooting and culling of red deer and muntjac, which has particularly strengthened my interest in deer management and estate work. I have also hunted in France, Germany, the Czech Republic and South Africa, which has given me exposure to different hunting cultures.

Some of the Scottish Highland estates could potentially provide work experience ghillieing on the red stags from August to late October.

In the first instance I would suggest emailing the factor (estate manager) of some of the larger estates, Google the likes of ‘Atholl estates deer stalking’ for them and Dalhousie, Invercauld, Grosvenor (Reay Forest) etc

Your language skills might well be a help with some clients!

Best of luck
Nick
