"Stay out of trouble"...

These are (always) my wife's sagacious words, as she heads off for another shift with the NHS.

"FFS! I am not a child" - said my inner voice.

"Yes dear." - said my outer voice.

Done the laundry. Tick.

Cleaned the oven. Tick.

I am on a roll.

What next?

I know. I will strip and clean the bolt on my Anschutz rife. Never done it before, but how hard can it be?

I watch a YouTube video. Yeah, reckon I could do that.

So you need to picture the scene (nauseating I know). I am sat in my study and I am only wearing a pair of shorts.

I did mention I had done the laundry this morning.

Within moments, the bolt is in pieces...

However, when I came to take the back end off the bolt housing, it came out like a Jack-in-the-box that was possessed...

Unknown.jpeg

The f'ing main spring assembly, hit me so hard in the (naked) chest, it almost knocked me out of the chair...

The bleeding has stopped, and the physical scars will fade with time.

The emotional scars may never fade...🥺

Do we need to rename you to Francisco Scaramanga 🤔

OK, well that took longer than it should have, but here it is:-

If anyone is thinking of stripping down an Anschutz bolt (why would you?), when it comes to reassembling the thing, connect the front end (extractor) to the main body, before you try and reassemble the mainspring back to the body. Save yourselves about two hours, and a vast about of sweary words. Ask me how I know.🤬

Mind how you go...

A very harrowing read that & really the Online Safety Bill should've shielded us delicate flowers from that flesh wound.
I hope in the future you can move on from this & not let this terrible accident hold your life back...My deepest sympathy,Andy😇

Been there got the badge.
No 1 son despite being told explicitly not to undo bolt did just that. Out shot firing pin hit floor and broke.
Took months to get a replacement which is now a 2 piece assembly.
Also had bolt apart to file the extractors to get case ejection sorted.
D

The extractor ( the hooky one) and the cartridge guide are handed and don’t take kindly to being swapped around.
Other than that, well done.
Theres nothing like completing a simple task and having a new scar to prove it.

Everyday must be a struggle to contain yourself from doing even more self inflicted harm, have you learned nothing from past accidents ? the list lengthens.
Every day is a school day when we learn, l think it’s remembering that lets you down.

You must remember to remember.

I bet your lass is most happy when you’re asleep…..at least you can’t harm yourself then…….can you ??

Oh and don’t forget to remove all traces of blood from all parts of your bolt it can have a deleterious effect on metal, then clean your desk and monitor of any blood spatter, hopefully your lass won’t find any evidence of your mishap, and for goodness sake’s put some clothes on if your lass sees the wound she’ll have a word or two……as normal.

I’m waiting for the multi episode saga that literally ends with a bang and is followed by an obituary.
Thought we were there a couple of times, but he has more lives than a cat called “Lucky”.
Diesel fumes from driving an elderly LWB defender for a decade or 2 may have something to do with it, but maybe not.
It’s hard to tell.
I will miss him though.

One of my senior supervisors said to me as I was retiring (and we never saw eye to eye)

‘You’ll miss me’ and laughed. I replied ‘I won’t - I’m a much better shot than that’ and didn’t laugh.

Thanks, and apologies in taking your thread off topic.

It may just be the photograph as the bullets appear to have a very different pattern of crimping to that imparted by my Lee FCD. It also appears the crimping is within a cannelure which is clearly impossible if 35g V-Max.

Back on topic: Vintage Germolene is your best freind but no doubt Mrs. S62 will ensure you dont clog-up A&E.
