Waterproof membranes

I have a pair of waterproof, breathable camouflage waders, I have used them for all of my salmon fishing, winter/spring wet area stalking and all my goose shooting from October to December 5 days a week.
Yes I have torn them on wire etc. and I've patched them a good few times and I wash them with a hose and cold water after every use.
The boots have always been a problem and I have patched them countless times, but the uppers are the interesting bit.
They are waterproof and definitely breathable! the best breathable stuff I've come across and they are now in their 5th season, not bad because I struggled to get 1 season out of all previous pairs. They WERE made by prologic and are no longer available.
I have two jackets, both brilliant, one a green Simms, the other a TFG in real tree cammo, you've guessed it, both out of production!

Surprised not to see anyone using Nomad gear. I've been using their shooting coats for about twenty years - still have the original one. It's got rips, tears (repaired) and it's so old the thread is starting to give way in places, but it doesn't leak a drop, even now. If I think about how many coats I used to get through, the £275 to buy it all those years ago (while it was expensive at the time!!) now looks dirt cheap. I still use their Quadrider smock for stalking - quiet, warm and it doesn't leak. I can lie out on the wet grass or heather for as long as I like and it still doesn't leak. Costs more to buy - about twice what a Ridgeline costs, but there's a reason why. :british:

A wee bit off topic, but sportpersuit have some great deals on waterproofs with various membranes, got an email a few minutes ago from them.

Intresting. In this case the rain jacket has to be very light an packable ? Not to be to cumbersome to carry all day.
A good windproof softshell ( Kuiu Guide DCS jacket) in combination with a waterproof shell could be O.K

Yep.. This is the inherent problem with the likes of harkila Pro Hunter and Jackets of a similar style, you have no option but to wear it all the time no matter what the conditions.. 90% for which it will be inappropriate..

One of the problems in the UK is that there is a resistance to carrying a backpack when stalking... Its a sign of not being a real man or something! A decent backpack facilitates layering and gives you somewhere to put your FAK, something else that is too often left in the car as it's more macho not to carry it!

I have a Kenai jacket which is my go to outer.. Breathes as if you have nothing on and blocks wind and light drizzle Too. Merino Base layer and mid layers if I need them... My Yukon jacket stays in my pack unless it is raining.. I can layer up and layer down on the move no matter what the conditions and no longer overheat, suffer from condensation, get wet, cold etc...

greetings all,

i love my swazi stuff, i have a couple of coats from them and they waterproof and bomb proof my thar i love but bought a wapiti jacket because of the main zipper. and for windproof i have the winddriver jacket oke you look as a ewok when striding through teh woods and also have still great fun from my swanny but shortend them.

Got a pair of Ridgeline pintail trousers, they certainly turn water. A bit to warm these last few days so went back to wearing the Rovince anti tick trousers. These are good for keeping ticks of you but walk through wet vegetation and your soaked in seconds. Shame they couldn't/ won't water proof these
