We should not have dogs or cats for pets!

i dont see much wrong with banning pointless pets, only keep animals that have a use not because you want an animal. would help the waste of resources. could be handled like gun ownership
So if I read your post right a little 80 year old lady not be allowed to have a dog just because she wants to have a dog as a companion as she hardly ever gets out to socialize with other people. A little unfair isn't it, and how would someone decide the difference between "Want" and "Need"?
I'm not saying this to be argumentative, just trying to make sense of it.

yeah does seem a bit harsh. on the same lines as firearms, apply for a dog for a purpose and with proof.
only thinking out loud i havent got a plan for government just yet

The only way to restore biodiversity is for people should stop having people. End childbirth and the over-proliferation of dogs and cats will take care of itself.

It would appear they are from....the UK. (Yes, I know they're a fringe element, and not representative of the average, everyday UK person).

The "re-wilding" thing was interesting. It was one of the things I noticed about the UK, while living there. Not as much animal diversity in the "wild". Coming from the US, it felt fairly sanitized (UK woods). Not devoid of animals per se, but definitely felt like there was a much small amount of differing species, than say what you would typically see in the US country side. Again, just my impression. Then again, we aren't an island with 60M people on it, that have been living there for eons...
I think it depends where in both countries, having lived in both the US and U.K. as well….try going to Scotland, you can see everything from beavers (stop sniggering at the back! 😂) capercaillie, deer from sika, to red to roe and apparently even muntjac to otters, wildcats, snakes….

When in the Oklahoma/Texas area - there were some creatures but I’m not sure diversity was much better…but in Montana/Colorado etc there seemed to be much more.

What the animal rights activists don't realise is that they are effectively asking for a complete divorce of humans from the natural environment - In truth humans are embedded in human and through a period of time on an evolutionary scale, we have developed commensal relationships with some species. These species are a link for humans to the environment - cutting that link would be a mistake. We need a closer not more distant relationship with the environment.

On cats, I don’t want to go on a rant - but I’d have a huge cull if I was running the show…I live in a very small rural community and cats are a huge problem, mostly due to one idiot owner who collects every stray cat she can find and takes them as her own….two other residents have fallen out with her as she has taken in their cats thinking they were strays….🤦🏻‍♂️

Her cats leave a trail of destruction and 3 people I know of have spoken to her to ask if she can keep the cats in due to them decimating the birds in the areas - one guy sent her videos of the cats repeatedly predating his bird tables….her response was that she didn’t want to stifle the cats natural desire to hunt…..

I spoke to her briefly and explained I too was not in favour of stifling the mrs’s springer spaniels desire to chase a cat down and would be exercising this opinion of the cats showed up on our property….

I also accidentally trapped two of the said moggies and gave them a cold shower with a hose prior to release to make sure their desire to return was diminished!

As for dogs, I’d license them and take a harder line, any dog not licensed would go straight to the vets - a hard line I know but it would reduce the number of land sharks being paraded around by neds in the local cities and towns….Aberdeen is one of the only cities I know of where there was a publicised issue in the media of kids play park swings being destroyed due to neds using the seats to teach the dogs to clamp onto things….🤦🏻‍♂️

Maybe the vegans have got a point here….🤔

I say let them carry on spouting this crud. The problem with the animal rights lobby is that most of public don’t realise how extreme they are. They tend to think that they just have a problem with fox hunting and big jumps at horse races, when in fact they want to move us all to being vegan and keeping no animals whatsoever.

If the mask has slipped then good, people might think twice before giving them support.

I think that’s precisely what they want, and the sooner the public realise the better.
They weren’t saying get rid of dogs etc. what they want is for all animals to roam free in the countryside.
They had a very young guy from Animal Rising and another chap who I think was an horse racing trainer /owner giving respective views on (I think?) GB News.
Ken.
