What conservation work do you do ?

I suppose Australia's ecology evolved more or less in isolation because of its size and remoteness from the rest of the world. Any alien introduction into a self-contained bio-system is likely to have disastrous consequences. Especially when so much of that bio-system is very fragile because of genetic uniqueness and resources made scarce by the hot dry climate.

If you wanted to pick a land where Europeans could do the most damage simply by turning up, Australia would be hard to beat.

Saying that, the Abos made blunders as well. They introduced the dingo.

Spend my life trying to stop this sh1t. This little calf is from last week.

Makes my f*##**g blood boil!

I spend 3 decades chasing and jumping on poachers, a different kind. Recon trained, covert rural surveillance trained, passionate lover of Africa. If I was 15 years younger, I would join you for just food, and do it for no pay.

Good luck Carl, you have my genuine and sincere admiration. Keep it up.

Mike.

Forgive my shameless hijacking of this thread but I'd like to invite anyone out there who has not heard about our conservation and anti-poaching course at Carls place in Mozambique 6th - 17th Sept 2021 to come along

This is a not-for-profit course where all money goes to the anti-poaching / conservation initiative at Carl's place to prevent exactly what he (@CarlW ) has just posted

An announcement will be made shortly regarding deposits etc for those intrepid 6 people that have so far signed up

If you fancy doing your bit for conservation and take part in a life changing experience, drop me a PM

Once again I apologise for this shameless but well intentioned advert and hijack

Stoats and cats do far more harm than the old hare does mate. Think Kakapo Laughing Owl and other indigenous birds. Trees can be replaced the old kaka once gone cannot be,
I know.

I kill them all. I have five DOC200 stoat/ferret/rat/hedgehog traps and three Steve Allen SA2 cat/possum traps.

If I post photos on here of all the cats I trap & shoot I will get into a lot of trouble and be banished.

.......Why!

As conservation works goes, it is as important as any other conservation work to reduce/eradicate invasive non native vermin.

I believe that by not doing so that we are pandering to the antis/greens/cat lovers.

I also believe that one cannot be an "animal lover" if owning a cat that is allowed to freely roam.

I most certainly do not disagree with your sentiments Jonno, but I can fully appreciate Mods and DNs reasoning.
