What knives do you use for the gralloch?

I’m no expert but that looks like a full flat grind with a micro bevel not a scandi grind?
Yes, you're right of course. It is full flat with micro bevel. Memory fades me. I remember having the conversation now with the maker about the merits of both and he recommended that over a Scandi for this particular profile/blade thickness. The knife was based on one of my older bushcrafter field knives which had been sold to me with poor hardening/tempering and which couldn't be rescued (edges kept folding over and it wouldn't hold an edge) which had an even thicker spine (5mm). I asked for a similar profile but using a thinner 3mm spine which made it a bit more useful and this was the result. It's a lovely knife, with great balance and feel in the hand and it keeps a wicked edge. I use a diamond sharpening stone and leather strop to occasionally sharpen but it never needs much work

Main knife is a like many a stainless Mora companion, also have the mora tripe knife for skinning, I’ve been looking for something smaller than the companion for tunnelling on munties as I do find the mora a bit big for that, I might have to give the AliExpress one a go

Another vote for EKA Swingblade. Mora clipper as back-up in my bag. Still waiting to loose either of them to justify the 7+ other knives that are sitting in the draw at £60 - £400 a pop, but can't seem to loose either of them and nothing else will do a better job!

Welcome to my world. Lost my first Mora on my first proper stalk, found it on the way back to the car and years later, its been with me ever since  Use the G4 for the gralloch but Mora for bleeding and general stuff - great combo.

Lol! It's always the way. I'm a nightmare for losing bits of kit as well! The swingblade & Mora both orange tbf, and I use the lanyard on the swingblade, so I don't think I could lose it if I chucked it in a lake!
Have a little Mora Precision for more intricate bits as well. Total cost for all 3 = £30 or so at the time!

My Main go to knifes. ( at the moment)

Pride skinning knife I bought in New Zealand over 20yrs ago.
3 layer laminated steel. Just love it but only ever use for skinning.

Second is one I designed and made. (Don’t judge the plunge line 😮)
. Damasteel and ivory Micarta handle. I grit blasted the handle and it’s made a huge difference to the grip when wet.

You purchased some tidy kit there 👍

Thanks gents, reading this thread has been most helpful :tiphat:

I was previously fortunate enough to have a Richard Eadon Stalker. Thinking I would never get my FAC back (health issues), I incredibly reluctantly let go to another member.

Kicking myself immensly now 7-years later it looks like I'll be able to get the FAC back.

Different league I know, but just to get started, this thread has helped me settle on folding Gerber Gator and Maserin 763 Skinner with gut hook.

These are my go to. Danum fallow, which I use for bigger deer, Snakes knife for wee ones. Both take a razor edge and keep it. The danum is nice and long for bleeding stags, can’t be doing with holding small blades by the tip of the handle. Just got back from 4 days culling and it’s still razor sharp. The wee snake has been a revelation, what a cracking knife, for not a lot of money in the grand scheme, and a delicate little blade for back passages and what not. Highly recommended.
