What Rangefinder? Leica Vs Leupold

Hi all.

Want to buy a pocket sized Rangefinder but unsure what to go for.

Currently looking at the Leica CRF 2000B as it has angle/inclinometer which would be very useful to me. However some guys in the states have had issues with the warranty! £600 is a lot of money for a Rangefinder and I don’t want to be high and dry after the warranty runs out.

The Leupold is cheaper but don’t think it does angles.

the Zeiss looks good but is Leica money without the fancy ballistic features (equivalent horizontal distance).

What at would you go for? Has anyone got experience of Leica warranty in the UK?

Leica for me also I wouldn’t touch leupold to be honest as I don’t rate there stuff but that’s just my opinion

Certainly don't buy a Hawke. First one broke, replaced under warranty, second one broke just out of warranty leaving me out of range and pocket :(

Leica. One of the best although at that money I'd also consider the Sig Sauer Kilo, available from Uttings at a bit less money.

I have the Leica CRF 1600B and that is fab but getting a little pricey now. It has the inclination compensation and a useful in built ballistics app which is dead handy.

Avoid Hawke. Had one and it was utterly useless in anything other than fine weather and highly reflective target.

I had a leica before swaro range bins Had it for years Only ever used one battery, light and nice flat design CRF 1200 Never went wrong Just didn't work in fog!

Wouldn't touch anything by ATN ok till it goes wrong and only 2 yrs warranty. Lifetime warranty with Vortex.

I recently bought a Leica CRF 1000,its undoubtedly a quality item but with only a 2year warranty,I'm now thinking I should maybe have bought the Vortex instead. Think carefully what your requirements are before buying,in hindsight mine would have been peace of mind,if/when it fails.

Bought a LRF 800 well over ten years ago new for 250 Euro. Sold it three years ago for 250,- Euro (almost standard rate) and got a second hand LRF 1200 for 300 Euro. Bought my son a second hand LRF 800. Never had a problem with any of them and use them always. They hold their value and are quality kit. I had a cheaper range finder once... sold it a few days later to a 22 shooter. Rubbish.
I was very interested in range finding binos. Looked at a few last year at the IWA and actually thought I am better off with 700 gram binos than those lumps that often are so complicated that the staff at the show gave up trying to get one set to work...
Kahles have new Rangefinding binos.... I recon the lightest on the market ~ 800 grams, 1500m, must have a look at them.

To get the price down, look out for a Leica second hand. The white bodied ones (for golfers) are the same machine inside. Solid reliable quality & the same ranges as the hunting ones. I got one years ago, covered it with some nice thin leather & it easily ranges out to 800 yards. Just doesn't have the ballistic cosine function.

Leica... anything else is a compromise you will live to regret. I sold my LRF1200 Scan for what they cost me new.
Dont need them anymore as i know what i can hit and drop.

I have an old Leica 800, has been bullet proof, never fails to range and wasn't new when I bought it.
But if I had to do it all again starting now I'd be looking very hard at Vortex.

I have the Leica 2000b can’t fault it. Balistic computer built in. Quite accurate as well. Light and can be used as binoculars if you don’t fancy carting all you kit with you as the glass is very good.

got a lrf 900 from leica never fails me,

mate has a vortex................clarity was pants compared to the leica, and not that impressed, I bet I still have my leica when his gets sold on,

bob.
