What scope for a 22LR

Personally I wont spend good money on my 22LR for a few reasons Klench. The Hawke I have on it that I paid about 70 quid for is more than ample for my needs

1. I only use it a handful of times per year
2. It gets used out to about 75-80 yards
3. First and last light performance isn't of any particular concern

But thats just me.

Cheers

Pretty much the same reasoning I have…I now have a pard 008 on mine so it could be used for bunnies in the dark and with that it can also be used as a day scope - I will say with the pard it’s not as accurate as it was with the Hawke scope although I think that’s down to the mag and sight picture.

Hmmmmmm  errrrr. ok of course it would sir.:fib::rofl::rofl::rofl:
I had a Nikki sterling night eater on my CF rifle for a long time and it was fine, it simply lost out to the higher spec scopes in low light…it didn’t have an issue with holding accuracy or tracking.

Perfectly adequate for the price, however when you are shooting at last light or early morning adequate can get annoying and I will concede when you switch to a higher end scope you get to perfect…

I just run a Hawke Vantage fixed 4x32 AO as I have tested the vantage series up to x24 mag and to be honest none of them can pick out a bullet hole on target as well as this humble £50 scope,

The reason being as a fixed power it has a lot less lenses going on and thus better light transmitting properties,

What do I use?
The best 6x I can possibly afford (Zeiss).
But a 4x will do.
Because if you can't see it no matter how accurate your rifle, you won't hit it.
Plus I use my .22 more than any other caliber.

Other than a need for close range parralax adjustment in a variable scope fitted to a 22 rimfire, I just don’t understand why such a rifle shouldn’t be toped by the same quality of glass as people happily lavish on their stalking rig.

Viewing rabbits and other vermin in Zeiss/Swaro/Leica clarity is just as enjoyable as studying bambi through such crystal.

To be honest I agree! The best scope I ever used on my HW60 was Leupold 3-9 x 40 it was lovely to use. However I also see the other side of the coin too.

Got a Hawke on my Ruger - I forget the model but it’s the one with .22 specific holdover markings. I haven’t used it for a while but it’s good enough optically for low light hunting and very predictable in terms of bullet drop when shooting at linger ranges if you follow the instructions.
GULP
follow the instructions

blimey thats torn it guv’nor

The hawkes seem ok from what I can see - I’ve just had a look and I have one on my PCP - a hawke vantage, and had one on my .22LR a nite-eye….both seem to hold zero!

The OP has been quite specific re his requirements.

A new Rimmy - make and model pretty irrelevant inho.... and a day optic good enough to run a Pard 007 for NV use.

Assuming it can focus to the distance he will be engaging at, at works with the Pard, then thats all he needs.

Clearly, unless he has a swaro or a S&B or other high end glass, then he is free to use it. This is not what the OP has said so you may as well argure SAK Vs Titanium engineered mod up front.

There are many scopes that will fit the bill at 300 especially if he goes 2nd hand and sees what a better optic can do.

If you use a Pard 007 or similar giraffe neck inducing product you can give useful feed nack BUT like all optics, his eye is the ultimate teller of truth.

Hi peeps,
I will soon be buying my first rim fire and am looking to buy a scope. The rifle will be used for hunting day and night with the use of a pard 007.
I have a max budget of £300.
I have been looking at a Hawke vantage 30mm tube 4-16x50 Side focus,SFP.
I use an Hawke AirMax compact 30 4-16x44 I’m my air rifle and am very pleased with my current choice.Any recommendations or views would be appreciated.
I have the exact same scope you have been looking at. Comes with mounts and flip up lens covers. It’s on eBay😁

I had a NikkoStirling Gold Crown 6x40 on my 22lr for donkey's years.
I have the same scope on my HW77 sub 12, absolutely lovely bit of kit, great optics, made in Japan, zero tunnel effect and can be easily re parallaxed, I also have an adjustable nikko platinum from the same era on an old HW80.
