What's the closest you've got to a deer then?

The nearest was a fallow doe ,I was leaning on a fence post watching a few fallow doe's in the wood when one of them just kept walking towards me , she had no idea I was there the wind in my face , she got to 8 or 10 feet away , so close I could see her eyelashes. I stood there for 5 min or so before she walked away, nearest shot was virtually under the seat no more than5 metres. Nearest actual stalk about 20 metres on a fallow pricket intent on having his way with one of the ladies...!!

Was stalking with a client and in the morning a young pricked almost bowled us over then stood 2 yards away had a good butchers about and then scarpered! Then the following evening with the same client we were stalking into a buck with an abnormal head we got into 100 yards and lay and watched him the client decided he did not want to shoot him so we sat and watched he grazed towards us and almost ended up on top of us after a while! Scared the crap out of him I reckon!

I have been within 6 feet of two seperate muntjac whilst leaning against a tree. Didn't shoot either.
I have stalked to within 20m of a Sika hind by use of some well placed dead ground and more worryingly had a Sika stag, black with peat and as mad as hell in the rut come walking to within about 10 yards of me when I was armed with nothing more lethal than a feed bucket while feeding the pheasants.

I shot most of my cull fallow in Eire within 25 yards due to the dense Ash and Hazel scrub and the imposition of .22-250 as the maximum legal calibre due to the Security Restrictions. It made you a better stalker, or very patient waiting for them to come to you. 7 yards was the closest shot on a trophy buck with a client.

Never stalked close enough to touch a deer but did do " best of 3 falls or a submission" with a roe doe which ran in to me when pheasant beating. After a good kicking off her I realised letting go was a better option.

I've been knocked over by a roe when walking up pheasant, does that count?
Had a muntie walk up one day when "badger watching" with the missus...I guess that doesn't count...must have been very disturbed.

Less than 3m whilst sitting very still with my back up agains a comfy tree. A hind and calf on JAYB's land walked past... made my day.

My second trip out with my dad when I was six. Saw us both get to withinh 10 feat of a fallow doe. We shot it with a camera. I have been looking for that picture for about 20 years! It's in his loft some where!

With a rifle in hand there was a muntie at about 15 feet. But no shot thought the bush I was staring at it through!

It was barking its head off at me.

My mate a I were sat In a high seat when two yearling fallow does walked underneath! they were out of season! The closest one I have shot was just after Christmas at 40 meters. Less than a minuet from the car.

I have done lots of new forest jungle stalking were they were less than 50 meters but behind trees. Good stalking but no tea those days. So bad result really.

This was a close encounter while trying out a cheap Aldi night viewer - They walked up to within about 10m before they twigged I was there.
