Looking to join an organisation that will represent me, and provide insurance at the same time. I fish, shoot vermin, have riffles and shotguns. I live in Wales. I have previously been a member of the Game Conservancy and BFSS. So who looks after us best? Reading the internet BASC comes out the worst, being to big and lost their way, is this correct. Other group follow BASC so are they truly independent. Is there any real difference in insurance, willingness to help? prices start at £40 and go up to about £85, do you get double the valve? Advice please.

thanks
David

Insurance is worth looking into, once you have a shortlist. Check they cover everything you are likely to do and some are insurance of last resort (that is if some other insurance might cover you, like the landowners or your house insurance) they won't entertain a claim) if that matters to you.

As for who represents your interests, I think as a general rule these days, most of them seem to put their interests before anything else. The Scottish Gamekeepers Association indeed didn't accede to the lead shot fiasco, which is certainly in their favour. Although others will say they were hoodwinked by BASC.

There are some that simply do insurance only too and are cheaper if that floats your boat.

SGA but you would need full.membership for the insurance, full membership is intended for those in the industry

Nothing to stop an individual who is not in the industry from taking full membership though.
Supporter membership does not provide insurance.
Different categories of membership
Full membership £40 with insurance
Full membership for those in the industry but self employed £50 with insurance
Supporter £25 no insurance.

Angling trust for the angling aspect. I’m also with GWCT as despite of the lead catastrophe I’m grateful for and appreciate the work they do. Premium membership includes insurance.

I have left BASC and looked about for an alternative. As I intend to do a little more clay shooting this year I have joined the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association. The insurance covers game shooting beating rough shooting and fishing. All the other organisations apart from the SGA signed up to the lead ban without consultation with members.Richard.

Started with BASC many years ago but their unwillingness to support me with some serious legal issues lead me to the NGO who I have been with ever since.

I find them informative and helpful and they have a Ninja legal team and for my needs they suit me perfectly.

They all have their pros and cons whether its membership price or what services they provide, I read through what they all offer and tick boxes as I go and for me the NGO top trumps every time.

When the organisations representing us for money give anything like moneys worth I'd join for the reason Oldman suggests. SGA excepted.
I like to believe those who I pay money to are genuine, directed towards my best interestes, efficient, aware of the needs of the group I am a member of and will fight hard for my benefit - SGA then.

Sacs this year again , i'll look next year as i can't be arsed to bother this year just feel its better to have that nowt .

I was with basc and moved this year not very willing to help when your looking at getting your tickets revoked through no fault of your own

Is everyone who promotes the SGA sure that they will cover “legal expenses” if for example, a false accusation is made against you and the police remove your guns. And not just the first hour, thereafter one will have to dig deep for expensive lawyers fees?
