which show to attend?

Is anyone heading to the Game Fair this year?

A group of us went last year and had a brilliant day out. It’s always good to have a walk around, catch up with people, see what new products are about and generally enjoy a proper countryside day out.

There’s something about these shows that makes them a great meeting place for like-minded people, whether you’re into stalking, shooting, fishing, working dogs, wildlife, optics, clothing or just the countryside way of life.

It got me thinking — what is the best show you’ve visited recently?

For me, I think The Stalking Show is still one of my favourites. It has a really good atmosphere, plenty to see and feels properly focused on the things I’m most interested in.

The Game Fair is ok once in a while, but I wouldn't want to go regularly. Maybe once every 5 years might be ok? Or 10?
I did do a few consecutive years, which is probably what put me off.

I will stick with the Stalking Show until the hot tubs and garden ornaments take over, and after that I'll just sit and grumble and post negative comments on here about how the shows aren't what they used to be blah blah blah :old:

I always enjoy the game fair albeit not as much now as a few years ago

What I can’t stomach is £50 a ticket

Best show for me is actually the Highland show at Edinburgh

But you can not beat a decent hot tub while a gnome fishing is staring at you 😊🤣

Often wondered why the Game Fair is held when it normally is.
I've never been to one. I've always had an estate full of birds. Pheasant pens full with poults all wanted to wander off, partridge pens heaving with birds all attracting predators keen on a free meal.
A rearing field in the process of coming down, being cleaned and processed to be stored ready for next season. Stubble everywhere so all night sessions required on foxes, using few spare hours of the day to catch up on sleep.
If the estate lets some stalking days then you've got guests to ferry around then the carcass to deal with.
Often wondered where other keepers get the time to go, personally just too busy. Always figured that time spent then will put birds over guns during the shooting season, saving both job and house.

Hello, I think a lot of people remember Game Fairs back in early days when it was put on in different parts of the Uk, I did go to Ragley Hall a few years ago but it was not the same, Lots of stands had nothing to do the Country life , Some of the smaller game fairs like at Highclere are often better and cheaper to attend

I actually had a great time at Scot sheep, almost 2 weeks ago, at wedderlie near Duns.

Normally we go to a few agri shows each year and I found the commercial focus (and there by none of the ancillary so called country side stalls/ candle stick makers / soap purveyors) refreshing.

The highland I have been to too many times with work for it to be enjoyable now. Each to their own, of course.

I’m working at the scone game fair for my friend. Looking forward to it.

Was there last year and found it quite varied, if lacking a little on the gun makers row/ gun stands.

My wife attended for her first time and enjoyed it. A good day out.
