Our lad went out for a wee at 0400

He came back with a wound

Vet of course has revealed extent of injury

He is an old boy

No longer a chaser - he can barely climb onto his settee

Barbed wire?

Badger?

Other dog?

Boar?

Something else sharp on the farm

Poor old fella!

Looks very much like he’s tried to push through somewhere that has a sharp piece of metal or glass that’s sliced him open.

My old dog is a creature of habit & always goes to the same place for a pee, might be worth looking to see where he goes.

I'd say something sharp John, animals bite leaves puncture and crush bruise/swelling. Claws tend to cut so far then ruck the skin up, same for pig slashes. Something really sharp, glass or flint.
Either way, hope the old fella makes full and speedy recovery.

Poor old lad. Certainly looks as though he's caught himself going under something sharp. Lot of exudate from the drain, too. I'm guessing the vet has given him antibiotics as well as a painkiller?

Looks like whatever did it started from the bottom and had two sharp points running in parallel, but only 1 caught on. What is the spacing 1.5” or so?
