Wild Boar Release in Wales

They are not sure of their family history either.

On the contrary they are very familiar with their relatives - too familiar most would say.

Actually I feel sorry for the boar with with that bunch of rednecks around. Jed Clampet would seem like a townie compared to most of the locals. :stir:

Spread the same level of incompetence across any story/article in this publication and you get the general idea of the standard of reporting, not only of The Mirror but similar publications.

The main criteria for publication is generally how many papers will it sell. Truth, public interest and impartiality come a very poor second. Shouldn't be surprised if the warthog picture was chosen over any other because it looked more menacing, despite it being, um, not quite right.

He looks a very 'wild' boar flexing his tusks like that, perhaps he's really ****ed off at being at being let out and just realised he is not getting his food in a bowl tonight.

Just read on BBC Wales that 80 boar were released and that 42 are still unaccounted for.

The bit that I liked though was - "An adult wild boar is worth around £8,000 to a farmer, but as much as £25,000 per animal to a butcher". Penyard are you a multi millionaire yet?

Apparently they are capable of rapid population increase.

That's about the only thing that they have got right in the story. While some shooters have this secret or perhaps not so secret wish that this will be the start of another reintroduction like in the FoD I'm sure that the local landowners think otherwise.

funny you should mention that Mike! I'm currently abroad living the life on my ill gotten wild boar cash. You know, Ferraris, models, champagne.......The reality is £1.50/lb and a few days on west coast of Ireland fishing!

I'm definitely going to have a word with my butcher! Always knew he was a robbing b#gger!

I can only imagine a crack team of valley commandos are on a seek and destroy mission as we speak and I hold little hope for the naive escapees. I do hope they do become established as the locals won't have to travel so far for their pork and might leave my area alone!

If there were 21 of those on the run, there would be problems IMO. Warthog are pretty aggressive especially defending their offspring and are as tough as anything. They are definitely not to be messed with.
Peter

They are, however, most delicious. And breed like the proverbial. I wouldn't mind having a few sounders on my ground!

The sooner they are shot the better, I farm not many miles from Maesteg and I do not want the bloody things on my ground.
