Winter Fuel Letter

I never said they should pay my bills, that's why I have never claimed for anything.

I reared my only child, as I could only afford to raise one. I've also gone on to raise my granddaughter and I will be paying off my mortgage for another 8 years.

Regarding private pensions, I know an awful lot of people of working class that said it wasn't worth the paper it is written on!
Then there is the tax on it.
What I have paid into is not going to have any meaningful effect on my retirement!

As I said before I am happy for you but believe me, there are millions like me, not so fortunate ones.
And no, I do not expect the state to carry me, I do however resent the nanny state pretending to care but in reality not.
Take my national insurance contributions for instance.
For the same amount I could of had a glowing private pension and good health insurance but instead I've got to pay to house illegal immigrants, drug addicts and battered wives, non of which was my ****ing fault!
100% agree

If you were self employed and declared £11,500 as your total income for tax purposes, HMRC would soon be on your case for fiddling and telling you you can live on that amount!
Ken.
No they wouldn't.
I speak from experience.
My total annual income for tax purposes seldom exceeds that, and I've had no hassle from HMRC.
Been self-employed since 1995

Ah, but at least you're no longer paying for winter fuel for wealthy OAPs.
That's one less thing to moan about.
Seems like things are starting to move in your favour at last...
I can't wait to receive my tax return my friend 🙏

Looks to me from reading your posts that you're not happy that you will no longer going to get the tax payer funded Winter Fuel allowance? Maybe I'm wrong?
Then you have assumed wrongly haven't you.

Maybe, just maybe, you assume to much, or am I assuming now?

I sometimes wonder if all of these schemes are completely unaffordable and they are simply Ponzi schemes drawn up by those in government at the time.
Of course they are. These schemes are all about buying votes. They're certainly not about balancing the books.

The sad thing is that not that long ago Starmer was criticising Sunak in Parliament for planning to cut the Winter fuel allowance. Now he moans that there is a black hole. You couldn't make it up!

Oh

My father told me when I was 18 and first started work that if I wanted a decent standard of living in retirement I should start planning for it now because the State pension alone would not be enough. Roll on 35 years and pensioners are telling me that the state pension alone is not enough to live on.
No 💩.
It was never a secret and you would have to be pretty stupid to think that the OA Pension alone would be enough.
Its not really the point but wait until you get there and see things from a different perspective. Interesting to note that Civil Service pensions seem to be somewhat overly generous but why wouldn't they be?

I planned so am actually quite looking forward to it. The kids will have left home (They better had). The mortgage will have been paid off. The OA pension plus two others will be coming in (One probably being Civil Service).
Just need my heath to stay good so that I can spend it all!

We all have a choice. If you can't beat them.........
