Woodland cull.....does Mia

My friend has a wrist strain from constant use at work so asked if I would help him out getting on top of the muntjac. It is something we share but he was happy to glass and enjoy the stalking, The first hot shape was walking away from up wind the hot rump was not stopping so it may have been a doe?

We stopped by a gap by the out side of the wood to have the wind swirl around, which changed the plan but 25 yards the puffer told a different story so back to plan A. Convinced the wind had done us he pointed to a different ride with traffic from roe and fallow under foot, the rain has sent the cover skywards which he admitted was making the glassing very tough going. I pointed to the thermal spotter with my hands over my eyes laughing, not long after a hot muntac shape out around 80 yards in a small clear patch so up on the sticks with his swro bins getting some usage!

Big fat neck in my z6 with a clear path 1 in the bag, I hung the buck on a tree to bleed out and we pressed on. 10 mins later a second was out in front but disappeared into a laurel bush so we expected to bump it on our way. A white tail scampering off in the distance but never say never, a slow walk through the wood there is a second large laurel bush. Pitching up for 10 mins would prove worth while. A clear path in this part of the wood is most welcome, 130 yard waiting for it to clear a fallen branch took a couple of min with this young deer browsing the woodland floor.

Happy with the result we headed back at what my friend calls my foxing pace as I do forget with him reminding me from time to time lol
As we closed on the position of the first deer a third bounced out of the brambles to what he thought was safe!! Up on the sticks whispering to my friend 2 or 3 your call? 3…….bang. 3 it is!
Back to grab the truck the whispering can stop chatting about the stalking and our friend who is on the road to normal after his kemo treatment.

So a successful late afternoon with 3 different shots neck chest and head from 80-130-60 yards (not meters lol) 1 with antlers 1 in velvet.

Well if left like many do then come the muntjac season  even more will be around, could have done with 2 does but there is always next time.
Very true, but still looks like a rewarding day, even if there may not be any real impact on the overall population from a breeding perspective. Might mean come the winter time, there will be a few more does to take
