The other day I foolishly walked into the pointy end of a branch and fully expected to see my eyeball hanging from it.
Well the pain was off the scale, Guy I was with nearly fainted but there was no blood, just a very very deep red eyeball still in the socket thankfully.

Called my GP, who I know well and described what had happened and how it was now, his advice (if I were you) get someone to take you to..... local Specksavers, yes Specksavers apparently fastest way (on nhs) to get it looked at and checkout the damage with state of the art kit.

Either that or sit for hours in A&E, last time there I watched the whole of ‘Dances with Wolves’

Anyway the young lady worked her magic and examined the eye from every angle, inside and out. She concluded that I’d done no lasting or serious harm, flogged me some eye drops, reckoned I’d be as good as new in a week and to come back then.

So Specksavers saved the day 👍

Indeed. Lost my hearing on Jan 3rd due to shooting,..I suspect. Crazy tinitus and migraines. Went to gp, put on antibiotics, no luck. Three sessions of ear cleaning, no luck. Referred me in Feb to NHS for audiogram. Come end March I chased them up - 6-12 month waiting list. Still had not had a good night sleep, exhausted, migraines and such, ringing ear, you name it. Called spec savers who do hearing aid appointments - had audiogram same day - ascertained inner ear damage/growth/other, nothing to be seen, no hearing damage so tinitus not from hearing damage but other issue. Sent report to GP, GP chased up, they referred me to ENT at NHS - 6 weeks later, still no appointment.

Migraines, hearing loss and tinitus, no proper sleep - since Jan 3rd. No idea when anyone will care - can I get a National Insurance tax refund please? Since after all, no medical service is provided.

I am told by GP now that due to time passed on waiting list, hearing loss is likely irreversible - who should I sue? NHS?

Ps. I’m 44 and have to stop my working day at 14:00 to sleep for an hour or two due to exhaustion from the noise - thanks NHS for not helping in 4 MONTHS…

Specsavers did their job, NHS can’t.

Rant over 😝 happy Tuesday 😃

Now that’s worth knowing, re the audiogram at Specksavers, a Blackthorn in your eyeball you say... sounds horrendous.

My tinnitus gets worse when a stressed
Think mine was caused when a was small child in early 70s got something in ma left ear brick splinter they said
Mine sounds like a toilet cistern filling up
Construction noise & shooting has not help
Think lot of lads on here will have hearing problems & tinnitus

That on reflection was in all very sound advice, I went into the local AE for a trapped sciatic nerve in my hip and knee which rendered me legless after 26 hrs on the original nhs plastic seat,( now with a square rear end ) a dear young lady come over and said we have you a trolley In the corridor by the exit so you can lay down to ease the pain I was overjoyed but after another 11 hrs on the corridor a proper bed popped up, and as strange as it may seem I was ecstatic, I did get a tea and a sandwich during the 37 hr endurance test mind, it wasn’t all bad
Still on a zimmer frame though 🥹 and housebound 🤣🤣🤣

Spec savers are sound 🙂 I wonder if they do nerve entrapment treatment 🤔

Are they able to treat for this these days ???
A stalker friend of mine swore by johnie walker as a benefit to getting a reasonable nights kip, he declined to specify amount required and didn’t like a morning stalk only pm 🙂

Am a jamisons man me sell 🤣
Don’t think there is a cure for it 🤷‍♂️ apart from loud noise which triggers it
People have got it after covid there no sure how it works to make the noise people hear

Hmmm....and why I'm glad we don't have Nationalized healthcare in the US. Smh...
I think there’s nationalised healthcare and then there’s poorly funded and badly managed NHS nationalised healthcare.

I live in a country where nationalised healthcare has so far been fantastic, in the 10 years I’ve been here. I’ve had the need for two hospital stays, including a reasonably serious operation during that time and the experience has been stellar, costing me almost nowt.

What country are you in?

Still suffering with the eye then?

Specsavers….
Sorry 😘

Austria.

Nothing’s perfect and there’s more than enough challenges living here, but healthcare, and in general social security, isn’t one of them.
That kinda makes sense. Small country. More socialist minded (and no, I don't mean that as a pejorative, more a description).

It doesn't work here though, and most other places. People talk about the benefits (or rather, the detractors of not having it), but then in threads like this, you see what most economists already know. You can't lower the cost of healthcare by Nationalizing it. It's smoke and mirrors. So what ends up happening is either quality goes down, or quantity goes down...often times both.

As demonstrated by the OP having to wait so long, that the damage became permanent.

We won't discuss that they now have to import more than half their doctors, and create very few new pharmaceuticals. Regarding pharmaceuticals, I think Austria is the same, since there is no money in research and development of new drugs, since the government is going to tell you how much you can charge for them. And government research and development is not nearly as efficient or fast at creating them.

<shrug>

As you said, there are always challenges, and nothing is perfect. I for one, have been very pleased with my healthcare in the US. I pay for it, but I get what I pay for.

Saw optician Specsavers, something at the back of right eye blurring vision. Not glaucoma says he beyond my paygrade says he so writes to Eye man at hospital. Four months later hospital appointment. Pills given for glaucoma, see you in six months. That was ten months ago, stopped taking pills as they caused severe skin irritation so still awaiting appointment, not sure I want it with the same man.

Ha ha, saw that (out of one eye) but too late to edit/correct... eye is improving rapidly thanks to the £14.95 eye drops Spec(k)savers sold me.
Think I was lucky there, could have been right nasty.
