I have written before about a young chap who I have had out on the estate with us and he has shot a few deer with me using his father's rifle, which was also on his certificate.
Well he being a little older and now having saved up bought his own rifle he was anxious to Christian it. He has been a lucky lad over the past couple of years being taken out and has already shot 5 of the 6 species under supervision. His father and I were out after Fallow so knowing how safe he was I told him to sit in a high seat to shoot either Fallow does or Muntjac, but nothing over 150 yards.
Off his Dad and I went to a different area. On getting a text from him just before grey dark we went back to pick him up. He had seen several Fallow does but all either with no back stop or 200 yds away so hadn't shot one. He had shot a little Munty buck at less than 100 yds and was over the moon. First shot with his .243w at deer and a perfect plan was fulfilled. Hopefully from now on he will get plenty of chances to shoot unsupervised from a high seat.
