I'm looking at doing the same to my photon 6.5x50, however they do say on the forum that it doesn't work with a variable zoom because the POA changes when you zoom in. That's where the photon 2.5x 50 doubler comes in to playIt is a very capable unit if you carry out the xtreme conversion (see the night vision forum for full details) it's a cheap conversion using a camera lens which are readily available. The parts to do mine will be here on monday. I have had most of the high end NV but if what i am being told by some experienced guys is true the Photon xtreme conversion will do very well when you consider the whole lot will cost me about £440 (excluding IR) and that includes a brand new 6.5 XT scope.
It will then give around 12x mag and aparently is very usable and clear to beyond 300 yards and i believe that with the Dragonfly 500mw laser that i intend to use this will make for clear viewing to well beyond that.

I think that's what I was trying to say as well. Can anyone advise me if I need the adaptor or will the doubler fit straight onto the 6.5 x50 XT
I am totally confused. is this unit as it stands, bought with hard erned cash direct from gunshop, no bloody good without a right bit of faffing about adding this that and tother.
What I want to know will it work straight out of the box bolted on to my 243.
Tusker.
Cheers Bruce, that is just what I needed to know. The ground I shoot foxes on would not see me shooting further than 150 yards. My day time scope is 6 x, So I am not bothered about the mag issue. When you spend around £420 on a new Yukon Photon XT6.5 x 50 and put it on your 243 you can comfortably shoot foxes out to around 100-130 yards with it using it's built in laser illuminator.
If you want to shoot at longer ranges than that, you'll need an additional illuminator which clamps onto the short section of picatinny rail built into the Photon.
A typical illuminator to get you out to 200 yards will cost around £45.
The "Photon Extreme" mentioned in this thread is a modification dreamed up by some members of the Night Vision UK forum where the existing lens of the Photon is replaced with a higher quality lens from a SLR camera.
This modification apparently produces a clearer image than the standard lens.
I wouldn't buy a Photon from a gunshop, buying online under the distance selling regulations gives you 14 days to try it out and if you don't like it and return it in the same condition you received it, then the seller is legally obliged to give you your money back
Cheers
Bruce
My jury is still out on them. Considering the money, it's hard to complain though. I bought an XT4.6X42.
The first problem I had was mounting it. Not a great problem, but a bit of a faff depending what sort of rail is on your rifle. My problem is with eye relief. I find I need my eye much nearer to get a good picture than with a normal scope. So I ended up hunting around for offset mounts. The next problem was zeroing it. The digital method of adjusting you may find doesn't have a great deal of leeway and you may find yourself putting shim(s) in the mounts. I eventually zeroed mine at the range (don't go on a sunny day) and went after some naughty rabbits some time later. Couldn't hit a thing! Checked the zero and it was way out. So I gave up and it's sitting in it's box at the moment and a normal scope is on that rifle.
I have been a bit put off by my experience of them. Not really sure if it's the scope's fault or not though, possibly just circumstances ganging up on me. I think I'll give it a whirl on the PCP air rifle to see if it'll hold it's zero. If it behaves, I might try it again on the bunny gun.
Did you hold the button in when you zeroed to save the settings,8f not then there is your problem.

I sincerely hope you are a smart ass and I'm a dope and I didn't. We shall see.![]()
