I noticed a few empty slots that aren't filled.:mad:
Kidding aside, I walked into the local ranch supply store and found this. Evidently some powders and primers are starting to flow, including Varget. I think there was 18 pounds on the shelf. FYI, the big orange posters hanging on the shelves are saying that all customers are limited to two, one-pound containers of powder daily. This rationing has been in place for several years. ~Muir

It's not a gun shop. It's a ranch supply store that carries some shooting gear. This is the only other pic I have; hope for my UK brethren who yearn for Varget. They had 18 pounds on the shelf.~Muir

That's great. I realised it wasn't a gunshop, but that makes it all the more special. I guess we just don't have the market here for decent reloading supplies shops close to where we live.

It is like most things in the USA....far to much of every thing all served with xxxl fries....

I doubt that you could amass that amount of powder in a U.K. gun shop if you combined the stocks of 10 U.K. stores. :lol:

Saying that I was very pleasantly surprised by the amount of powder stocked by Dauntsey guns a little while ago.

It's nice to see things getting back to where they should be. This was a real shocker to me. The pickings have been slim for such a long time. I even found Lil Gun on the shelf which has been scarce.

So if this looks like a lot of powder, I must ask: How many pounds of powder does the average shop carry? This is about what a middleweight retailer would carry here.~Muir

In my neck of the woods its more about continuity of supply rather than how much the shop has in stock can always get powder but not necessarily the brand I want.
 
It's the discontinuity or shall we say non-continuity rather, of certain powders as well as bullets that makes me more and more revert back to quality factory ammo such as norma and rws. I enjoy reloading, especially for partitions which is my favourite bullet of all time; however...that you cannot get the powder or the bullet weight that you've done load development for, is just too much hassle.

The trick is to buy so many kg's of the same powder and bullets that it will see you through the next war(s), and had it not been for the need for a 2nd mortgage to finance it, I would.

What average distance would the customers have to travel to that store? IE., what catchment area does this store have/cater for?
 
Just got back from Florida Keys. Visited BassPro shops. Obviously. Although mostly fishing biased, the shops in Miami (where we flew in/out from) had tons of stuff! Bullets and powder. Soooooooo tempting!

Spot on.... Four years ago I worked really hard at getting a load developed for 2 calibres, using one powder for both .243Win, and .30-06... Over time I then purchased my max allowance of bullets for both, and enough powder to last a while... Now I take the opportunity when it arises to just top up on the components rather than let them run too low.... as you never know.....

I totally appreciate that the last couple of years has been difficult for a lot of people in getting components for different calibres. Recently, in buying a few boxes of bullets I could not believe the price increase from 2 years ago... As for the powder despite looking around, an increase of £8.00 per lb was average...

Looking at the pictures people have posted here from the US outlets, we can only hope that the supplies are going to reach here aswell....

Several years back I posted here that shortages were coming to you guys because suddenly some common powders and bullets became unavailable. It had nothing to do with what you guys call "panic buying"; it was just a sudden falling off in supplies. When that happened I started buying 1000 primers every payday from my local retailer. Likewise a pound of powder here and there. When the shipments stopped I was far enough ahead that I have ridden it out without too much fuss. This isn't the first time this has happened. In the 90's it happened as well. I learned my lesson. Never go hand to mouth in the component game. I know you guys have limits as to what you can keep on hand but keeping your stocks at maximum is probably a good idea.~Muir
 
It would make such a difference if we weren't so dependant upon imports from the US. No problem with the products, but we are hardly a priority market. Even Ramshot powder made in Belgium gets re-imported here from the US (so I understand).....

S&B, PPU, Lapua, RUAG all make bullets, brass and primers (don't know if Lapua make primers at all, but the others do) and plenty of powder is made in Europe too (Vhit, Bofors, RS etc) but our supplies are so restricted. Especially of deer legal bullets. Shortages in the US really shouldn't leave us starving...
