What are your thoughts on support for repairs or parts or new barrels from Sauer now that they no longer make the 202. Will you be able to get a barrel 20 years from now? What if something breaks?

According to 'german sites'? Who? Have you emailed Sauer to ask? They will be able to tell you the truth, there are no plans to stop production of the 202, why on earth would they!! It's been a raving success, and just because they've brought the 404 out, it's hardly going to spell the end of one of their most successful other products, it's yet to be proved as a success itself, I'd be more worried about getting parts for one of them in the future if they were to be a flop....

Cema Waffen has it on their front page.
I suspect this is why they haven't gone hell for leather on a new product launch and promo, rather taking a softer drip feed approach. Much like the Sako A6, though I suspect for different reasons. Why would you want your core market to ditch their stable mate, resulting in flooding the market with second hand 202s.
I would also expect it to be as accurate as a Blaser...but I'm not sure it is..

It appears that it is true that the 202 has been discontinued. Its a shame because it is a lovely rifle. Deerstalker.308, I asked a mutual german friend to investigate getting a .308 barrel for mine, he was told production stopped in July.

Does this mean there's going to be a massive "everything must go!" sale of 202s and I can pick up a Take-down Elegance for £75 if I look out for it?

I wish! I quite fancy a cheap 30-06 barrel for my 202 Outback.
Back to the OP: Even if are ending/have ended production, I cannot imagine that Sauer will leave the product unsupported.
The 202 was such a success I can't believe manufacturers support would end for a long long time.
Production wise, if they produced both products and the 202 outsold the 404 it would be a problem and questions would be ask about the huge investment made in a new product.
Due to ill health I am having to give up shooting, so soon I will be advertising all my Sauer 202 kit.
Guns, actions, barrels, stocks and forends. Shame really but **** happens!

Good point regarding the 202 vs 404. I haven't seen one in the flesh, but I do like the look of the 404. It seems like an evolution.
Sorry to hear that you are having to give up shooting. When the time comes for me to hang up the guns, I think I might have to keep at least some to look at, clean and fondle.

The 202 is a great but then Sauer 90 is the best they made by far

Email response from sauer: "it is correct that the production of Sauer 202 was discontinued this summer after more than 20 successful years.
Of course we will make sure the full availability of all spare parts, including barrels and stocks for at least 10 years in the future."
so I stand corrected but equally, there is no need to panic, as customer support won't be lost just yet.....!

sounds like something a Tika or a sako owner would say��Wished they had stopped making them 10 years ago,worst rifle I have ever had
That made me giggle. I have some several Sako rifles and am the proud owner of a Sauer 202. I am a real Sako fan, but have to say that there is a lot to like about the Sauer.
