UKSHA follow up and strike site

Exciting times ahead for us all at the UKSHA.
I am glad to announce that Paul Smith has a Hannoverscher Schweisshund pup awaiting for him.
Everyone within the UKSHA are very happy that Paul is getting on the road with this pup.

Personally,I would like to thank all the people involved in this new addition to the team of the UKSHA.
Especially to the Verein Hirschmann e.V. and the ÖSHV.

The people in these organisations already know who they are and they have been thanked already, however, the contacts made will only strengthen with time, for the lifetime of the pup and beyond.

My good friends in Germany who are looking after the pup until the rabies vaccinations are done, you know,Paul and the whole of the UKSHA are ever thankful.

A big welcome to Adelheid von der Wermuhtschneid.......she will track Fallow,Red,Boar,Roe,Muntjac and perhaps Chinese Water Deer.

Very happy for you Paul, the wait is worth it mannie.

All the best George

Little and Large recoveries.
A productive weekend for our UKSHA members and hounds.
Lee and Xena had a good track with a chase on a wounded muntjac(leg shot).
Myself and Pascha had a recovery on a red stag.
The red rut is just round the corner, the 0800 number continues to be busy.
Some of our guys had controls done this weekend as well.
A shot at a Fallow was deemed a miss as was another at a muntjac.
Keep ringing the number and we will continue to attend.

Well done chaps every injured deer found and every missed shot confirmed is a credit to both societies and for the better of our sport, keep up the good work.
Regards
Jimmy

The Red rut is not quite started here yet,the stags are trying to roar but it has been warm here.
The animals are still in their groups.

However a track was done yesterday,Pascha did very well with a chase and brought the stag to bay.

Track was 13 hours old.Stag very much alive at end,if a dog was placed on this animal earlier the animal may not have been recovered.
When we tracked him,he got up and ran as though not injured.

Please continue to call the 0800 number for advice at the shot site and we also look forward to seeing people at Euston, the seminar is free, training advice can also be given, again all free of charge.

We in UKSHA do this for the work of ending suffering and giving our dogs the work they have been bred for.

All the best

Was it a brisket shot?

As about as mobile as they get Id imagine? Very well done for catching up with it. The type of wound that an animal may survive in time? Pure conjecture given your great efforts.

congratulations again.

A big thank you to the Verein Hirschmann and the ÖSHV for the help in sourcing Adelheid von der Wermuhtschneid.
Thank you Herr Schlüter and members of the Vorstand, without whose help we would not have Anni in the UK.
Anni(as Paul Smith has named her)is now in the UK.
She arrived home with Paul and Donna yesterday evening.
She has been named Anni after our friends daughter who looked after her for 8 weeks until the rabies injections were completed.
Without this help,UKSHA and Paul would not have Anni now.
Manuela,Joachim and family,we hope you realise how special you are.
I know the Verein Hirschmann also realise what a special thing you have done to help us here in the UK.
This will never be forgotten by any of us.
Anni is off to a superb start and will continue to be educated in the way that we within the UKSHA/Verein Hirschmann have been taught and we all look forward to see how Anni develops and performs as she grows.
An important hound imported into the UK,to further UKSHA's common goals with both the Verein Hirschmann and the KBGS.
A big big thank you again, especially to you Manuela.
A very special lady and a special family.
Kindest Regards
All at UKSHA

Best Practice for deer dogs has now been updated, using this information with the UKSHA follow up and strike site along with the guidance notes from best practice will give the deerstalker all the information they require to help recover wounded deer by themselves or with the aid of a tracking team.
http://www.thedeerinitiative.co.uk/uploads/guides/198.pdf

It was good that we all could sit together around the same table(UKSHA,UKDTR,BMHS,NGO,BASC and BDS)to work out the revised best practice,

best wishes Tony

Yesterday evening just minutes before dark,a friend of mine shot a young roe off restock.
At the shot, the animal jumped and ran to the left disappearing from view with a leg swinging.
On following up of the animal, stalker found pieces of bone, hair and a bit of blood.
He backed out.
Called me last night and we went up this morning.
18 hours after the shot.A lot of rain fell last night also.
A lot of blood for the first 20m then nothing.
We tracked for 200m onto a bank and the animal got up and ran uphill,I released Pascha,he immediately started barking,I checked the Garmin,200m,250m,300m,constant barking,350m,400m,then the barking started to become intermittent.
This means Pascha has lost sight of the animal, within the Verein Hirschmann,we call it Fährtenlaut, barking on the track but not in sight of the animal,600m,the barking changed again,he sees the animal again,650m,barking stopped.
With roe this means he has it,with red, boar, sika or other larger species,he bays and again the tone in his bark changes.....
I was already travelling in the direction they were going in,I get through the wood and find Pascha with the deer,he had finished it himself.
My friend did everything correct, that animal had travelled quickly and covered a lot of ground after having been hit 18 hours earlier,if he had followed it or we had in the dark(last night)it would have been a lot longer and harder for all concerned, especially the animal.
A good conclusion and a happy stalker,
George
