A Long Drag....

With some late sunshine predicted I thought it would be worth a look where my trail cam has picked up a few fallow passing through.
There are two routes into my high seat but the recent high winds have covered both trails with a carpet of leaves and twigs.
What breeze there was put pay to one route leaving me Hobson's choice!

Setting the Z6 to x4 I worked through my cover of Oaks and Hornbeam, up a head there was a bit of movement so finding a good side rest off a branch I waited.

Keeping my head above the scope to catch any movement in front paid off as a doe stepped out from my right around 60 yards. No shot unless she carried on walking forward to the large gap in the trees...The round rocked her side wards then she ran into a thicket, know to get it back to the truck.

I text the land owner as she was keen to see one up close! While she was on her way I walked back to the truck secured the rifle then started the drag back...

The owner stayed long enough to take a picture, said you may come and shoot another then left...lol

A good weight at 85 lbs dressed, the usual marks on my scales for Muntjac show up well..

That's my sort of afternoon, well done! Just a suggestion try dragging from the head. rope the neak and half hitch the lower jaw you'll find the drag a lot easier going with the hair.

Tim. Why are you dragging it against the grain? Regards JCS
Reminds me of the story involving a stalker ,his guest and a student. The guest had shot a hind a couple of hundred yards for the landrover, giving an easy drag down a grassy slope . Keen to show he was up to it the student started to drag using the method used above. The stalker suggested it would be easier dragging the beast the other way. Back at the rover the guest asked what is keeping the student, The stalker and guest turned around to see the student dragging" the other way" , and disappearing over the far horizon.

I was wondering that as well.

Think there will be a lot of members interested in the reply.

The large piece of plastic I used as a sled to pull it across the paddock worked well after I got where I wanted to do the gralloch just past where the shot was taken...

Glad the owner left as it was hard to gauge her reaction while I opened it up!!

Free stalking is hard to find so quite glad of the offer to go again..

I should have titled the post Stalking Die section.......lol

As her feet were the only part to get a rope in the thicket also the spot to clean it out was not far away then it was no hard ship....

As least SD is consistent....

Why does it matter if ur dragging it that way, that's the way I drag it once gralloched as it keeps the back legs together and off the ground and stops all the **** getting in the carcass.

Nice work feller can't always recover in a perfect way ,you must find a way to use the The Levitation Charm (Wingardium Leviosa) is a charm used to make objects fly, or levitate, taught to first years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. That will keep you out of trouble

Cheers Lads, I should have used the title "The Green Mile" or (I did it my way)

That might have pleased the Deer Police :old:

If you own a dog don't stroke it in the same direction as Tims pulling that Deer, lol.
Anyhow good work next time extract from thicket then do the business.
Use to pull them like that when I first started. :old:
