Controlling heckling and unhelpful posts in the classifieds

Try being Red-Dot

Personally if I was him I`d be hunting down the arseholes and belting them round the heed witha piece of finely grained Belgian walnut.

With all the computer wizards out there perhaps a program installation could make the original poster (classifieds) an 'honorary mod' for his/her sale post with the power to delete the unwelcome replies pertaining to that one thread for sale.

see these unhelpful posts all the time and really struggle to understand what the trolls making these posts have to gain. Why intefere with someones sale when they have no interest in it!!!!

Some people still get smart remarks posted on their threads for no other reason as to try and bring it to the attention of the moderators or better than that ...the person posting the said reply has nothing better to do ..like being out shooting.

i have no idea how to stop it as the mods have enough on their plate without needing to fix this lot out,

But having been under the cosh when I was laid off and selling up, I know what it feels like, even more annoying is the fact that some people who know you don't even stand up for you when the shoot hits the fan,

all said and done if your a pain in the mods sides then you will no doubt find out fast enough,

bob,

My suggestion is to make the classifieds section a single post advert, for response only by PM, no opportunity to add comments. That would stop the heckling.
some people have done a DIY version of this by creating an advert then marking the thread as sold straight away, thus making it impossible for anyone to add their opinions.

I agree with this method, several times I have sold bits and bobs via a single post then on to PMs it certainly is more efficient and obviously avoids the silly billy comments.

regards WB.

Most of the heckling comes when items are clearly overpriced, I understand why people comment but, at the end of the day, it's not anyone else's business, a person can optimistically ask whatever they want, buyer beware I suppose?

Being able to lock the adverts would be the best idea. If this also applied to 'Stalking Available' ads etc it would make it much less hard work for advertisers.

If the content of the ad raises issues which third parties feel strongly about then they can always start another thread in the discussion areas.

It is also frustrating when advertisers keep 'Bumping' their items to the top, sometimes several times a day, which knocks other ads off the front page then they have to do the same!

It's still a good place to buy and sell items, I'll be selling some things myself soon.

maybe the moderator team could add another button to the drop down window,...locked, as sold may mean the post could be bypassed in error.

Simple problem to sort, make the threads read only.......end of problem..

Some comments can be helpful though, and also bring a thread up to the top.
Also, for those who're selling handcrafted items etc it's a good opportunity for folk who've already bought from them to add a bit of praise for the workmanship.
Like everyone else I hate the heckling and negative posts on classified threads, but I always like to see the positive remarks and the helpful comments and the good feedback.

There's another side to this though. What if a dishonest seller is mis-describing the item to make it more sellable and you see it? You know it's wrong as you own the exact same item. Are you supposed to sit back and let some poor sod get ripped off or waste his time and money traveling to view the item only to be disappointed? I couldn't/didn't do this with a gun cabinet for sale on here. The seller refused to change the add and reported me. However, the Mods took MY side and made the seller change his description. Was I wrong? Should I have kept quiet? Is that what a descent person does?

Why not PM the OP and admin?

I'd say examples like this are in the minority compared to those where posters simply want to cause mischief by questioning the price or other characteristics of the sale.

Definitely in the minority on here willie. I did partly conform to the site rules anyway, as my reply was helpful. Only thing was that it was helpful to the buyers and not the seller
