Blaser R93 is Retired

The R8 comes prepped for a stud and indeed is supplied with one.. it is up to the purchaser as to whether they fit it or not. so... on that basis, I would say that IT IS designed to be used with one. Some people however, do not want a protrusion on the bottom of the fore end... its all about choice and Blaser have catered for that by giving choice.

As an aside, I use my R8 with a Harris bipod when at the range... I've never noticed any unusual flex as a result of the bipod being fitted, nor have I noticed any fall off in accuracy.

I did have a 308 R8 (the 2nd of 3 I have owned.) bought 2nd hand and then purchased a used success stock for it.. was horrible, couldn't get the groups below 4"... shots all over the place, so much flex in the fore end that you could move the barrel from one side of the channel to the other. But.. it turned out that the channel had been widened by its previous owner to take a match barrel.. it wasn't factory and that had weakened the whole thing... took it back and bought my current R8 in 6.5x55 with standard barrel.. spot on from day one and has been since..

The moral of the story... if you want a bigger barrel in your blaser, buy a factory stock designed to take it, don't try to modify a standard one.. it will damage it!

No moral at all. I had my standard R93 widen to take a safari profile. Still shoots sub MoA with the standard barrels as I would expect they are free floating. Something else was wrong.

Sorry for the late response chaps.. Vipaboy you sound like a Blaser media spin doctor with all that patter you`ve wrote. Obviously you love the keyboard as much as the Blaser brand.
You are not affiliated, authorised or have been appointed as a spoke`s man have you?
In fact your just a self proclaimed expert by having owned just three of there products. Which of those you test out on the range and the one rifle with ample free floating barrel space you couldn't shoot for ****,lol.
Your what normal people would call a Blaser nut case..
Now I`ll repeat again but this time I`ll put it in big letter`s so you can read it better without being mistaken.
Blaser stocks flex at the fore end with very little effort when using a bipod. It will affect accuracy if the stock makes contact with the barrel..

Now that said I will tell you another part of the story..

I contacted my Blaser dealer the day after I had shot the gun (Pro Success stock) standard barrel and industry standard calibre for stalking.
A polite conversation took place . I informed him of my finding`s that the stock was a very tight fit along the barrel length and under the barrel at the fore end. When fitted with a bipod the stock was actually touching under the barrel. I went on to say that when on un even ground when levelling the gun up on the bipod the sides of the stock were flexing and touching the barrel. Hence the wild groups that I was getting.
As an experienced Blaser affiliated dealer he gave a 10 out of 10 response.. He said I will send another stock down to you tomorrow by courier and I will contact you within an hour of its delivery time.
Shoot the gun with the new stock and let me know if its ok.
I did try the gun with the new stock which just so happened to be milled out to take a Match barrel.
Well I put three in the same hole at just over 100 yards. Just to make sure I tried it the day after and put four almost in the same hole at 150 yards using the bipod.
The stock still flexed but it couldn't touch the barrel.
He was informed the day after and in the same conversation he stated that a lot of the Pro success stocks were arriving with a very tight fitting.
In fact his words were very very tight.
Anyway the guns do carry a warranty as you all will know and up to yet there back up and support of there product up to yet has been second to none.
My Bumhole stock is currently with Blaser being altered and when I do receive it back it will still flex but hopefully not that much to touch the barrel..
So my moral of the story is go straight to the people who know about the product and not to self proclaimed experts who think they know..
Hope this helps your decision McHugh ;)

thanks for posting, i had never heard of that problem.

i have been tempted to get a thumbhole stock a few times but might just stick with the professional.

Never seen a blaser clearance that bad before. Not sure what their supplier QA/QC is like then as I doubt the R8 was designed with so little clearance. So what are the options, don't use bipod, channel out stock, stiffen stock, new stock in spec, wooden stock. The channel out stock option should take no time.

proof that a blaser works perfectly well with a bipod.

how is that proof. It is photo of a bloke dressed in black behind a Blaser.

Now I own a blaser but I am also aware that they failed the British military trials.

The factory plastic sporter stocks flex. The old Offroad is a lot more rigid than the Offroad professional with rubber grips. But even that has flex.

there's no chance that's a middle weight barrel?

That vipaboy kind of reminds me of that advert where the Collie get`s sheared with the sheep, lmao.
Now go back to post 103 and on the 11th line down you`ll find the relevant information that you desire..
But anyway why does that gun look like its never been used in the field.. :suss:

I've seen more clearance on a safari profile barrel in my professional stock. You want to see how much gap is in there with the 223 barrel lol!

Yes.. yes... i read your post... even managed not to be offended by it! it just looks as if the profile of the channel is made for a barrel of smaller proportions... or... the barrel is slightly too larger diameter for the channel... or it could be an optical illusion.. It was a fair observation... the barrel does look chunkier than mine...

She's clean because she gets lovingly scrubbed, bathed and oiled up after every outing....

Isn't "blasen" the German verb for "to fart", now that we've settled the flex issue?

Blasé is the German word for an expulsion of air from the body, Bugles are geblasen ! but when in company and someone asks " wer hat geblasen " when no bugles or other instruments are in view it is the common phrase used for " who has farted ?"
My Blaser rifle is the best thing I have ever had for wind - even better that Andrews liver salts :D
You ought to know better than that Amir ;)
