Is there engine damage if the chain goes? What is the best way to check it?I work for the RAC. Very common problem, it sounds like the timing chain has jumped. Dont carry on messing about with it get it recovered to your local garage for checking.
Hi, wonder if ours could be the same?? we bought this car for my Daughter, about 3 years ago, brought it home, parked it up, and it never ran again, when you try to start it, it goes to start, then just turns over, funny thing it, we had a receipt for new timing chain fitted, over £700,00 quid?? we have people out, and they can't diagnose it. when it first went wrong, online it said the temp sensor, i checked that car and it was wobbly, bought a new one form Euro car parts, but still didn't start, the last guy who was an ex VW specialist, said the temperature sensor was saying it's minus 50 degrees outside, cost us £20 for nothing, as no fix no fee, any idea if this is the same thing??? thanksIt needs checking to confirm the fault first. Do you have a good local garage, its not a massive job. A new chain, modified guides and tensioners will be fitted. I will find out price for you tomorrow but i would say around 450-500 pound area. hope this helps. Get it properly diagnosed first though
We didn't think it was the timing chain, as it had a new one fitted, just before we bought it, do you think it's work checking still?? thanksAs mentioned if youve got fuel and a spark you need to check timing hasn't moved
Ok thanks for the advice, we will be checking that too now then, it had a compression test before, and it was all fine. funny how it just stopped like that? thanks, will be back here to say how it went. many thanks for all the advice from people, really appreciate it.Yes its worth checking, if thats ok and youve got fuel in the rail you need make sure the fuel is getting into the cylinders, could also try a compression test. Air and fuel with a correctly timed spark and should run
