Hi all. I have had a plol since September for the wife to learn to drive. Just put a new battery on it and it won't start. Turns over but wont fire. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Regards Dan

I work for the RAC. Very common problem, it sounds like the timing chain has jumped. Dont carry on messing about with it get it recovered to your local garage for checking.

Disconnect the battery and let everything run down, then reconnect and let the computer re-boot. Might be a corrupt file.

Is there engine damage if the chain goes? What is the best way to check it?

They usually jump a few teeth, not normally any damage. The garage will check to see if all of the timing pins locate before stripping down. We see it on a very regular basis.

It needs checking to confirm the fault first. Do you have a good local garage, its not a massive job. A new chain, modified guides and tensioners will be fitted. I will find out price for you tomorrow but i would say around 450-500 pound area. hope this helps. Get it properly diagnosed first though

I had the same problem with my combo van and it was the crankshaft sensor. As roe2506 said take it to a garage they will soon tell you.

Hi, wonder if ours could be the same?? we bought this car for my Daughter, about 3 years ago, brought it home, parked it up, and it never ran again, when you try to start it, it goes to start, then just turns over, funny thing it, we had a receipt for new timing chain fitted, over £700,00 quid?? we have people out, and they can't diagnose it. when it first went wrong, online it said the temp sensor, i checked that car and it was wobbly, bought a new one form Euro car parts, but still didn't start, the last guy who was an ex VW specialist, said the temperature sensor was saying it's minus 50 degrees outside, cost us £20 for nothing, as no fix no fee, any idea if this is the same thing??? thanks

Dont suppose your wife has run the car into the garage wall and tripped the fuel cut-off? Otherwise - garage as said.

Yes its worth checking, if thats ok and youve got fuel in the rail you need make sure the fuel is getting into the cylinders, could also try a compression test. Air and fuel with a correctly timed spark and should run
