Organising a charity clay shoot?

I have taken on the task of organising a small local charity clay shoot for our club which we are hopefully holding on our own clay ground on Sunday 20th August. The two main reasons for this shoot are as follows: First and foremost it is to raise extra funds for The North West Air Ambulance (Our club already makes a regular cash donation each year to The North West Air Ambulance) and secondly it is to try to encourage newcomers/novices into the sport - Plus of course to have plenty of social time and banter together.
The way that things seem to be panning out at the moment is that each of our members are being asked to bring at least one novice with them (Two or three would be better) as well as a bottle or something suitable for a raffle prize.
The most likely format is going to be a 25 bird DTL shoot for the novices after some coaching and a few (Not too testing) practice birds with a trophy or first, second and third places. The experienced shooters will do a 25 sporting bird shoot with much more testing birds, again (Hopefully) with a prize for first, second and third places.
We are expecting to have a fairly large raffle as well as a "Guess how many cartridge cases in the box" competition.
One of the member's wives have already offered to do teas, coffees, soft drinks, cakes and scones etc (Which she is going to bake herself)
If any of you out there have any other suggestions as extra money raisers for an event like this I would be delighted to hear them so as to raise as much extra funding for The North west Air Ambulance.

Yes. Get a big plastic waterbutt, fill it with fired 12 Bore cartridges and have a "Guess the number" competition at 50p a go to win a cash prize.

Also run a cash prize Pool Shoot ten bird double rise on your DTL with winner taking 50% of the pool money. OR is you've safe driven birds a one man flush of ten birds?

Ditto an air rifle ten shot fifteen yard paper target, standing, on scored targets if you've wadcutter pellets available.

Oh...don't forget that shooters without guns but which you loan a gun and ammunition to may be best asked to sign a Non Prohibited Person Declaration when they sign in. It's not strictly necessary IMHO but the CPSA advise it as a best practice measure.

Hope it all goes successfully.

We had thought about an air rifle target shooting comp for youngsters but ruled that out for insurance reasons and the fact that we don't have the room to change targets without going in front of the clay firing line.

What you suggest about the water butt full of cartridge cases is what we are doing with a large clear plastic sack!

Those without shotgun certificates are already catered for, we have a standard "non prohibited person" form that they have to fill in and sign.

Thank you for your ideas and feedback!:tiphat:

Gather up some prizes from local Businesses and run a raffle.
Good thought which we already have in hand. I am just waiting for a letter from our Club President to use to show businesses and Shops/Supermarkets that it is a genuine event for a very good cause and not some sort of a con.

I have already had John Webber of North West Cartridges (Not sure if John is a member on here) donate a slab of cartridges which was extremely generous of him, Foicchi UK are looking in to if they can also donate a slab of cartridges and TH4 (Off this forum) has very generously donated a days Deer Stalking to include in the raffle, again something which is very kind of him and very much appreciated.
The generosity of members of this forum is overwhelming at times, it is very moving, all of which will get a mention on our club web site as soon as I have finalised the details of the shoot and in the local papers as we have a reporter coming to write a report, take some pictures and try some clay shooting clay shoot with us!:tiphat:
I am at the moment looking at where to buy some trophies for the shoot - This is something that I really want to buy myself for this charity shoot as I owe my wife's life to the North West Air Ambulance and it is my personal way of saying thank you to them. I am also trying to contact one or all of the crew that were responsible for saving Marlene's life as I would like to try to get him/her/them to attend the shoot. Marlene is doing the catering and it will be an incredible complete surprise for her if I can arrange for that part of it to happen.

P.M me your address and il send you a walking stick with fallow antler handle and a stalking knife to raffle Pete ,every little helps atb

I have three cups on marble bases these have blank plates on them if they are of use p.m. your tel no.

FB, Iam not quite 100%, but it may be that you will have to register with The Charity Commission for this event. You could of course Google them, and verify, Iam sure there will be others on this site who have held such events as you are about to do, so I hope they will give you further pointers, but in any case very best of luck with it

I appreciate your thoughts Patrick but Chadderton Rifle and Pistol Club have been supporting and donating to The North West Air Ambulance as well as holding fund raising vents for a good few years now. However I will get our committee to check this out.
Thanks for your feedback.:tiphat:

I'm not quite sure why you think this, but I'd be utterly astounded if there was any need to register with the Charity Commission to undertake fundraising for a charity. Literally hundreds of thousands of people and events every year would fall under this.

A quick update to this post from Patrick. To run a small raffle to be drawn on the day (Which is what we intend to do) there is no need for a licence. However because of the nature of some of the prizes that have already been very generously donated it looks like we may well be applying for a Small Society Lottery Licence in order to run a Grand Christmas Raffle with some really great prizes which would be opened up to a much wider audience, so in a way Patrick was correct in what he said.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those members who have already donated some really great prizes in order to try to make this a real success for The North West Air Ambulance.
You all know who you are so thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart!:tiphat:
