Thin, warm tough socks?

As per the title, does such a thing exist?

I happily wear fairly chunky hard-wearing (Indestructible) socks in wellies, but hate wearing thick socks with leather boots. I much prefer thin cotton socks and snug fitting boots. Makes my big feet feel less cumbersome, and enables me to move about more quietly. And I find that they're more comfy like that. However, thin cotton socks wear into holes in no time and, although my old boots (Jack Pyke) were thinsulate lined, my current ones (Harkila) are not. Therefore I'm going to have very cold feet come winter time, especially when sitting up a highseat on a frosty morning!

So, has anyone got any recommendations for lightweight, yet warm, hard-wearing socks?

Hi Tim i use Asda Steel boot socks at work as thin as normal socks but tough as nails ,not managed to hole a pair yet and 5 pairs for a fiver ,cheap as chips .Started wearing them stalking no problems at all in boots or wellies atb

Icebreaker; not cheap but nothing else will do for me anymore (Meindl Douvre, Douvre Extreme & ski boots). The merino wool stops any heat-rash & I can wear them for ages before I need to wash them. I'm trying to get fit again after an operation & am currently doing at least a brisk 10 kms a day & I can get a week out of them before putting them to the wash.

For the Meindl boots I bought the 'Hike Light Crew' socks.

+1. Biggest benefit of merino is that it does't smell.

I had those asda socks before, but they fell to bits to be honest. The heels went. The indestructible socks I've got now came from local farmers' merchants, and they're by far the best lasting socks I've ever had. Perfect in wellies (which is my usual footwear) but too bulky to be comfy in walking boots. The icebreaker socks look good, but a bit pricey as has been said. The TEKO socks appear to be a bit bulky / too much padding, looking at photos on their website. Any more suggestions?

Can't go wrong with these, I wear them all the time.

A good tip is to buy the larger size then wash and tumble dry them. They will shrink once and saves the hassle of shrinking a pair by accident.

Costco trail socks
4 pairs for £11 or so

bloody marvelous!
wear them all the time
If I need thicker I wear two pairs!

blended merino
dont wear out quickly like pure wool
don't make you sweat like some blends

Iv been wearing the Costco ones for a good few years ..
although the quality has got worse over the last 2 years I still buy them

not showing on the costco site.
may be a little early for them as they do a lot of seasonal stuff

its these:

4 Pairs Merino Wool Socks Medium Large Trail Men Women Walking Hiking KIRKLAND

bit more expensive but still 4 pairs for £20!
