Hi All,
Long shot I know, but do you know of anyone who has or is wanting to sell GP11 ammo.
I know it's available from ITH but logistics/cost of getting it to yorkshire are very difficult. So looking for another source
Cheers

unless someone can bring you some from ITL I don't think there is another source, ammozone used to bring it in but they usually sold out very quickly, probably time to buy some PPU and reload, the PPU 7.5 74grn bullets are the same profile as the GP11 bullet and with RL17 or equivalent you can get pretty close to GP11 performance.

Cheers for the reply! Would happily spilt a delivery cost if anyone else was interested. I think Kranks may help facilitate but at a cost. Will get some PPU in the mean time. Do you have any load data for RL17?

this is from the Reload Swiss data (RL17 is RS62) with the PPU 174 I am using 48grns in MY rifle but you need to work up to it, and depending on YOUR rifle could go higher

Brilliant thanks! Are you getting good groups with those?
To be honest I normally use them at 300-600 slinged without a rest so am happy to hold bull they are consistent and I see no reason they wouldn't group at 100 the limiting factor would be sights I will one day get around to zeroing a scope for it but at present I am playing with a diopter set until 800-1000 when I roll out the gp11 and use the issued sights

One thing you need to know about reloading for 7.5x55 is cartridge overall length. If you set this to standard specs then the K31 is likely to fail to fire because the bolt won't close fully and either it won't fire or when you try to eject the round you'll find that the bullet has jammed into the rifling and remains there while the case ejects and the powder distributes itself all around the chamber, magazine etc. This is because the GP11 bullet is much more 'stepple' shaped than the likes of PPU bullets which have a rounder ogive and so tend to jam into the rifling. Aalso, the 'lead' on the rifling doesn't seem to follow the military standard of leaving plenty of room to allow for crud in the chamber. It is Swiss and so starts where a proper lead ought to start!

There is somewhere on the web a superb and most detailed article on this problem, with many images and measurements. It also criticises the use of the Lee dies. Apparently the chambers of the K11 and the K31 are not identical despite both rifles using the GP11. I don't recall the exact differences, but they are significant enough to matter. The Lee dies suit the K11 chamber but not the K31. The solution proposed on this site was to move to Redding dies, which are made to suit the K31 chamber. It did this and it resolved the immediate problems.

In my time with the K31 I messed around endlessly with reloads for many hundreds of rounds. While I could achieve the same accuracy as GP11 I could never beat it. If you want some entertainment some dull evening, try pulling a bullet from a GP11 cartridge. I do believe that the Swiss have perfected the technique of welding the bloody things in place.

I use Lee dies and have never had a problem although I also use ppu 7.5 bullets which duplicate the shape and weight of the gp11 you are correct about the ogive and not understanding that has caused a lot of people avoidable grief as has neck sizing ! Full length resizing is the way forward if you want reliable chambering and no misfires (the k31 won't fire the cartridge if it is not fully home) the k11 throat is slacker than the k31 and as a result the k11 is slightly less accurate

Thanks for the info! Really appreciate it as it's my first 7.5x55swiss and think I have a lot to learn with it! Do either of you rate the PPU factory loads?

PPU target loads are about 200fps below gp11 but at the ranges I shoot (300-1000) are fine at 100 they may not group as well as gp11 but they do supply great brass! I'm up to 10 cycles on some of mine and if reloaded carefully can shoot very well

Plan on buying 100 factory for practice and then reload them after. Hopefully get some Friday from Kranks! Disappointed by the lack of GP11 in the Uk, i think my only option is to hope ITL can bring some to the next northern shooting show for me. Fingers crossed....

Nope, in today and they have nothing! At all!
is that no 174gn bullets ? how about loaded PPU rounds ? it would be a bugger to have to start redoing my loads to use something else, although not the end of the world.

Nothing, nada! Rang about 10 RFD around me and no one had any apart from one in brighouse and he had 80 factory PPU which I have reserved to collect primarily for the brass. 1967spud has some 174gn apparently...

Looks like I'm in the same boat. found 1 box of ppu in a local RFD today.

I loaded some 168grain PPU match heads with N140, shot ok at 100yards. Just have hardly any brass at the min :(
