Tikka M595

So I have decided to buy a very tidy Tikka M595 in .243
has anybody had one of these? What ammo did it like and what sort of accuracy can I expect,
plus any little idiosyncrasies Itou can advise me of?

Yes, it was my first centerfire and still have it.. also in .243. Its half-inch accurate with Federal Premier and Sako (both 100 grn). Its inch or less with Geco 105gn.

Don't think it has any quirks. I bought it from new and the trigger needed smoothing. I did this with fine emery paper and molyslip grease. Only a few strokes but it breaks like glass.

Other than that, I had it screw cut and have an additional 5 round mag for it. It just works..which is what you want.

i used 87 grain bullets and they did the job for me on most occasions,

great action, and i have never had a bad one, in fact 2 of my current rifles are tikka 595 actions that have been fitted with new barrels in a calibre of my choice, so if yours is in nice condition you should have no worries,

best of luck and look after it they IMO: are the best action with the name tikka on it

I bought a little used one of these in 243 a few years ago. Very happy with it tbh, problems so far are nil, excellent accuracy and very solid. I replaced the synthetic stock with a laminate (mainly as Im not particularly keen on synthetics), I may get round to bedding the action and replacing the trigger at some point but only for something to fiddle with, not at all necessary or affecting accuracy.
in terms of idiosyncrasies - I played around with different bullet weights, initially trying a 100gn bullet, then various 95s. I was never happy with the accuracy of any of them really. Then tried 85gn sierra BTHP and Varget and found the sweet spot with very tight touching groups. I now use 87gn vmax as the 243 is mainly used for fox control but it seems a very accurate rifle with bullets under 90 gns. Obviously this is only relevant to my rifle, yours may be different but its something to think about.
bottom line is you wont go wrong with a 595, once you've found a good load its a solid dependable rifle that'll give years of quality service, enjoy!

Friend has a very clean one in left hand, wood and blue, 22". It shoots true single hole with 87gr Vmax over 44.4 gr N160.
Great actions, my 47L is on what was a 308 M595. Only issue is if you want to find aftermarket parts such as triggers.

Got one in .308. Lovely rifle, my favourite. Light, well balanced, extremely accurate and not fussy about ammo (can't speak for the .243). My trigger is a little heavy also. Its crisp but weighty, though I'm used to it and its easy to fix. I wouldn't part with it.

Mine also has a cheapo plastic three round mag. Metal five rounders are available:

My 595 was a 243 but now a 6.5x47. I've also got a .222 590 model, both are LH.

Both have had their triggers fettled by Callum Ferguson and that made all the difference.

Other than that they are great.

I have one in 0.222R, stainless/synthetic, from when first available - no regrets whatsoever - 40/50grn bullets into the same holes. My go-to for appropriate species.
Changed the plastic bolt shroud for steel and will do the trigger guard when available.

I had a .243 in left hand - despite being more or less shot-out it still performed very well. As it happens it shot the 90g Prvi softpoints better than pretty much anything else it could muster and that including my reloads it would frequently produce groups with holes touching. Mine had been bedded into the stock which may have helped somewhat...who knows? I've always regretted setting it but the nice chap who brought it made it into an amazing semi-custom .260...if you ever want to sell that rifle back to me Gary I'll gladly give you back what you paid for it

The one I’ve bought has been bore scoped and is very clean! The crown is in good nick so I hope it shoots well!

Had one in 6.5x55 - beautiful rifle. Had to sell it when I got divorced, which was the best thing i've ever done, and selling the Tikka was the worst. My go-to stalking rifle.
