Buying a .22 action then transfer to RFD, is it a one for one or what's needed?

Afternoon everyone

I was looking to buy a used .22 action just now but wanted to keep that slot free and was going to transfer it off my cert to my RFD until needed (project target rifle). If I buy it and then transfer it to him does my slot automatically become available to buy another rifle or do I need a one for one and / or send my FAC in to be ammended?

I've just bought rifles to fill empty slots before so I'm unsure about this one, any advice will be appreciated. Everyone is probably saying transfer straight to RFD but up north where we are it's £45-£50 for a transfer so if I picked up the cost both sides it would cost me as much as the action to be honest.

Cheers

yep if it gets put on your cert its yours then if it gets taken off the slot disappears so you need to send it in to get the slot put back on ..within a certain time frame this is a 1 for 1 over that time frame you need to reapply for the slot with good reason and pay again

if you cant get it transfered direct to the RFD cause of cost ( they will charge for storage if they are tight on transfer fees)

you might think about asking for an aditional Slot and keep it on your ticket at home till needed you need to justify the extra slot to your FEO but its worth a shot may not take much longer that a 1 for 1 variation to do

There is no ‘time frame’ in which you have to apply for a one for one after disposing of a firearm.

Some FLDs may try and impose an arbitrary time limit but there is nothing in statute that supports it. Even the HOG specifically states there is no time limit at 10.71.

in the thames valley many fac owners are told you have six months to do a one for one if you have not completed it by then it is deemed you dont want to do it .and you then pay for a variation.

And what do the minority of FAC holders do? Maybe challenge it and inform the FLD that they will be applying for their one for ones at a future date and trust they will be complying with legislation and HOG. Either that or simply bend over and pay along with the others.

Presumably the FLD staff can read the Guidance, so maybe they just need the relevant section pointing out to them! :D

or perhaps someone at the top of the FLD food chain has decided "this is the way we will do it?" wouldn't be the first time......and I'm pretty certain I've read of people being told they have 2 weeks to re-apply for the slot after sale ?
