The use of Thermal imaging equipment is now banned on all of our land under lease.
Syndicate members will receive emails in due course confirming this.
I’ve appointed an independent agent to check on all parties out on site’s over the next 3 months and any one found to have Thermal imaging with them will have their lease terminated with immediate effect.
We have concluded that Thermal imaging provides an unfair advantage and is not sporting.
Anyone not co operating with our agent out on site will have their lease terminated no questions asked.
I’m sure everyone with a genuine love for Stalking Deer will fully understand this decision.

Hear, hear - and furthermore we should insist on a ban on riflescopes, rangefinders and all these other new-fangled contraptions which have emerged since the good, old fashioned black powder, unrifled muzzleloader!

Should just own up all the naysayers, "My wife won't let me buy a thermal so ban them and no one else can use one then"

:-D:-D:-D

It's banned here in NI for "deer stalking" foxes rabbits etc fine. Deer. Common. Deer stalking is supposed to be fun and challenging . Where is the fun and challenge in thermal imaging deer at night.

You do realise thermal works during the day too

Sounds like someone in the syndicate is a lot more successful than the others, I wonder if they mean the 'unfair advantage' is over the other poorer syndicate members who can't afford thermal imaging

Deer dogs?..... advantage?... I have a stalking buddy who has a belting little dog ... He scores 75% of the time he's out, but it's the dog that indicates most of the time. Should we ban dogs?

Just wait till you lot get to try heat seeking bullets, combined with thermal they are a game changer

in my eyes the use of thermal to find deer crosses the line from "deer stalking" to "deer culling" which is fine if you need to cross that line, Many on here I am sure fall into the "deer culling" side and thats fine large amounts of ground with lots of fallow say that need to be hit back hard and thermal may well be a option or even for finding lost animals in cover or at low light ect (even tho questions may be asked as to why the shot was taken) would also be another good reason for the use of thermal, but I dont think its needed or warrented for most stalkers including professional stalkers who are guiding clients as stalking for me is stallking and giving the deer a fair chance on a level playing field, and before people say "yes but you use binos, scopes ect" yes I do but unlike the deer I cant smell them or hear them walking along.

No. Dogs are mans best friend and have been domesticated for a millennia for the purposes of hunting, especially deer.

You know when I first started out, I didn't know much. I bought a dog, who was as clueless as me, with ridicule of having a
"toy sausage dog".

The minute I shot my first sambar with her, I had howls of the dachshund gives me an unfair advantage lol!!. Quite frankly there are people who are never happy unless people are as miserable as them.

I have started using one in the last two weeks or so. I have shot fifty odd deer and to be honest only one of them I wouldn’t of got without the thermal. The rest I would of seen with my eyes or bino’s. They certainly make spotting deer easier but they are not fail proof, if a deer is in amongst rashes they are very difficult to pick up. You still have to have the skills of a stalker to get the deer after spotting them

Deer Stalking practiced by most is a sport and as such, personally I would never use Thermal unless shooting with a night licence on a heavy cull.
Ok everybody is having fun talking about the various gadgets we use (scopes, bino's etc) but IMHO shooting over open sights should be part of any test/certificate or basic start to stalking.
That would sort a few out! If you can't hit a 6" bull three times at 100 yds on the bounce with iron sights, you shouldn't be out there anyway.
Found my tin helmet last night, let the verbal commence.
