not sure if this is a wind up

And the continentals spend all night in a hochsitz shooting boar with a 8x56 scope. Neither culling nor hunting - doh.

I work in the civil service and agree it is VERY bureaucratic, but do you know why? Well I'll tell you why - its because every minute thing we do has to be auditable and accountable. MP's asks questions, Joe public asks questions, press and the pubic demand answers to all the weirdest of things and complain and/or submit FOI requests if they don't get the answers that suit them.

And that's before we talk about managing public land - Forests etc. where Heath and Safety HAS to be taken to the Nth degree because if there is an incident the Press absolutely crucify them. Just imagine if there was an incident where a stalking leaseholder injured a member of the public and it was considered that FC hadn't taken sufficient steps to vet them? The Minister in charge gets it in the neck, passes it down the line and so the cycle continues.

Left to get on with our jobs their would no doubt be some stuff not right, bad apples etc, but no more so than any private business. So it's not the Civil Servants fault - it's yours Mr J Public for being so demanding.

All that mean a vastly disproportionate amount of a civil servant time is sent recording and justifying what they do, rather than getting on with the job.

As I said complete Bureaucracy. I am surprised nobody has spent years of time regarding Lyme Disease in Thetford Forest, that would be another waste of time and tax payer's money. FC is an outdated and inefficient Gov't dep't in my HO. This Nanny state creates problems and then throws our money at it to justify it's existance.

Completely agree TFH. Well over staffed with FC Wildlife Rangers. Kielder Rangers covering 8000 to 12000 hectares. They must be bumping into each other when out stalking.

Another with plenty to say based hearsay and supposition.

Yeap, but as I said, the nanny state is there due to the demands of the public, not those administering it. To speak to your MP

Night shooting is not sport. Period. It's deer control by the Scottish government i.e SNP. There is no night / out of season licence in England available and long may it last.
How funny the new land tax is £2 per hectare hill ground, £4 per arable AND £5 for foresrtry. FFS.

Isn't there huge tax breaks, on foresty already, I think it's exempt from inheritance tax, and profits from timber crops are free from income tax?? The government is going to get you some how??

It seems the problem is that some folk think the primary purpose of forestry is to provide for their entertainment, ignoring the fact that the point is to grow a tree crop

So they ban thermal for all syndicate members fine there rules, then the MD comes on SD and slags all syndicate members saying he has to go in and shoot problem deer himself and tells us how difficult the ground is to stalk.. surely if thermal was giving that much of an advantage then he wouldn’t need to go in and shoot problem deer and would ease the pressure on him.. but then again reading this reminded me of why I unfollowed the Facebook page with the self proclaimed superman couldn’t bear another post.

Quite a few night shooting licences being issued in England now.

That's very interesting Glyn. Any steer on roughly which part of the country and what species? I'm guessing some of the fallow hot spots, which would make sense. I understand the royal parks have made use of night licences for a long time.

I don’t understand the sentence in Glens post, The ban on thermal makes it fair on the deer, or the ban on thermal makes it fair on the syndicate members that cant afford thermal, would he also consider a ban on optics over £1000 and rifles over £1000 and clothing made by xxxxx and boots by xxxxx , what it does do is help you find a lost or wounded animal, find an animal if you have less than perfect eyesight and less than perfect optics.

End of day does it really matter, his syndicate his rules.
If I don't like them u won't join, I'm sure folk will vote with there feet/hard earned cash if it really is that big an issue.

Must admit I'm quite old fashioned and while it might be a great tool it's also good to learn without it. I bet in 10 yrs time a lot of vermin shooters wouldn't know much about lamping as all brought up on NV and thermal

Hoodwink the guys on Glenn's syndicate won't be worried about the cost of a thermal. The syndicate places are a bit of money.its Glenn's rules on his leases .i too thik that there wil be a lot of places with no deer due to thermal scopes and ti . People won't spend all the money they do on this gear then not shoot the deer

I quite agree its his company his rules, i have no problem with any of it, i was commenting on the logic that’s all, i started with open sights and no binos. It was seen as unsporting to have telescopic sights.

That's if they are not bumping into syndicate stalkers, squaddies or special forces.
:-D

Sorry Wolfie worked with FC in both England and Scotland on several deer management groups over many years, so not heresay and supposition. Some good and knowledgeable men on the ground, who I have the greatest respect for, and a lot of the others. I therfore think I am entitled to my opinion.
