N140 load for 243 with 105 gr head

The above load of N140 (33.5 grains) is shooting quite well but case ejection is a problem? Not all cases are hard to remove but reloading quickly is not easy.
Is the charge too much for 105 head? The bolt flanges where they come into contact with the case head, there are bright screeve marks! I suspect an overload??!!

Where did you find load data? I would think that N140 may be a bit fast for heavy bullets in 243.

Just out of interest, where did you get the load-data? I think N140 is suitable only for light bullets in .243.

Just checked - Viht give N140 loads for up to 80gr bullets, but give only loads for slower powders for anything heavier.

To answer your question, it does sound as though you're getting pressure-signs. If I were you, I'd stop using that load and that powder; and start again with a more-suitable, slower powder!

I agree with this comment. I have checked in my Sierra manual, and 107g shows Viht N165 starting at 39g, and a maximum of 42.5, but recommends a barrel with a 1x8 rate of twist, or faster. PM me, and if you wish I will send a copy of the other loads my manual has for .243

vit 140 is way two fast for 105gr bullets ( you would be well advised to change your powder if you wish to continue using any 105gr bullets in a 243 .)
I use vit 165 with 43.4 gr in a 1-8 twist with 105 gr

I don't understand what "bolt flanges where they come into contact with the case head, there are bright screeve marks" means but hard extraction and marks on the case do mean vast overpressure.

I would concur, but would qualify by saying that particular .243 rifle may not be around much longer

Thanks all. I have dismantled the remaining cases and destroyed the powder! Interestingly it took a while to ignite!!

Sounds like a good plan! I'm still interested to know where the original idea came from, to use so fast a powder with so heavy a bullet?
