Well done mty some nice red fellers for the fire :thumb: , I use a Atn range finder and Ialso tried the xsight but at the time I had a 20 MOR rail fitted and it just could't understand I had more moa than it thought I did so the rf did't like it :doh: I did try to tell it but as it was deaf to my wows and I had to let the deal go . My ATN Range finder is spot on when side by side to a swaro rf bino's it holds its own for a fraction of the cost ;) more pounds spent won't always send you down the path of enlightenment ? but it will lighten your back pocket for sure . I see there is already some thermal bits for sale already on the site at a lost to the buyer , so its not the holy grail and the future for all ? , i'v said it before if its your job to see into the darkness then crack on its a choice and we all have them ? but the average Jo who just wishes to dump that bloody lamp , then I for one feel he should use whatever he wishes without getting slated or having to sell one of his kids off just to please the joneses and at the end of the day it just for the Joy of foxing a few nights a month .

Hi 1tikka, I for one found your post informative & comprehensive. I appreciate that you are busy protecting piglets, but it would be a shame if this were to be your last post.
We all benefit from the experience of others on the forum, which is largely what it is about.

As you recognise, ATN has a poor reputation, which no doubt coloured some of the comments, especially if some of the posters " got their fingers burnt". However, having field tested the new unit (and you have experience in NV) you made the purchase & if it meets your needs & you are happy that's all that matters.
You shared your opinion & others did likewise. Some did disagree, but you still have a sight which you are more than happy with.
When it comes to comparing/discussing kit, all we express is our opinion (e.g which is the best calibre - this will run until the end time).

Tried the ATN 4k Pro last night with a laser IR directly against my ward 800 with sidewinder scope and sunranger black ruby. The Ward is very very good but the 4k was better. How much better i am not sure but certainly more detail and definition with less artifacts. A crisper overall picture even when I tried the laser with the 800, coupled with an easier eye piece and more natural aiming position. The two were compared at 12x mag, but if I wound up the 4k to even 20x the pic was still good.
I ordered one.
Further bonus is its another 80g lighter :-)
 
At last, somebody else actually trying it out for themselves!!!!!!!

You'll find day time viewing in colour very impressive and simply stunning.

Yesterday in full colour day time mode on a sunny Suffolk afternoon I was punching a postage stamp sized target at 200 yards with my .223 fully tuned and modified Tikka 595 full-sporter with 50 grain V max top end home loads. This was at 20 times magnification with total clarity. This was shooting off a flat and stable permanent aluminium chequer-plate shooting platform housed over the cab of my pick-up, off my lucky ex-three piece suite settee centre cushion.

You’ll be well please, I was out again Sunday night, had four, and two where shot my lamp mate, who was moaning earlier on in the evening about the new set up like a winger, (as now partially redundant and nor can he see the shots, and he prefers the lamp to the hand held ir spotter!!) This was until he got behind the rifle in the early hours.

He shot two, one a pig unit against plain weed free soil, the other running across a winter wheat adjacent field, both clearly in sight and in the open, both around the 300 yard distance. (No Bull). This was with the ir that came with the unit, that in a fact I simply prefer this as it’s so compact, adjustable and firmly lockable. The evening was cold, fresh and cloud free.

I also need to add striaght after he shot the second fox on the winter wheat, there was another spooked by the shot around the 400 yard range plus, and in conversation before shooting, he was confident to take the shot, from a clarity point of view, but he missed!!! And he’d not we’d of still been hearing about it today, so in one sense lucky fox and lucky shooting team!!!

The two foxes I shot earlier were both in deeper game crop cover elsewhere on another Estate, so they were a little harder to clarify, but I’m been pedantic and could easily still shoot out to 300 with ease against a more leafy mottled grey-scale back ground. Having said that, my foxes were around 75 yards and 150 yards, so not really a test of the equipment. (nor the shooter)

I’ve also just purchased a micro SD card, so even an old non-tecky like me is going to give it a go at taking a couple of video clips.

I’ve also just purchased a coupe of torch mounts off the forum, that have a knuckle and plastic insert in them like an opti-lock type ring mount, but adjustable for up and down and left and right that you can firmly lock. They have just arrived in the post this morning and appear to be great and stable for holding 25mm tube additional ir’s.

However, as I said earlier, I find the ir that came with the unit great. I like its fixing and like described above on my new mounts just purchased, it comes with a lovely lockable, mount of its own.

The tube of the ATN ir is only around 20mm so its excellent lockable adjustable clamp is not transferable for other ir’s. Hence my additional purchase.

Finally also on the forum I’ve also just purchased a set of 30mm High Optilock, to replace the mounts that came with the ATN, as I’m just a bit fussy and like top brand mounts.

The optilock mounts I took off my rifle to mount the ATN where medium, and had previous facilitated my Schmitt Bender Varmint scope, but are not quite high enough for the ATN Pro.

So you need 30mm high if you go down my route.

I’ve presently got the ATN mounted on a Tikka 595 picatinny conversion rail I purchased (from Tony at Night Spark Ltd) for £54.95 including 24 hour delivery service, quality piece of rail, came with all screws, great service.

I decided to add these further comments due to the large number of private constructive and informed conversations I had with forum members in private and via other points of contact.

Having tried a multitude of ir’s, including, the ATM unit that came with the scope, against the Black Sunnranger Ruby IR illuminator, UniqueFire 1605-50 850nm IR Torch, UniqueFire 1605-75 850nm IR torch, night-master Venom strike, and finally Ian Sirrell’s Sirius XT ir, which is simply superb in every aspect from quality to re-manufactured modifications (it’s solid as a rock), to instant focus, negating turning down the power when you get over shine. Ian’s service has been second to none, (24 hour delivery from order) and you can talk to him!!!! His adjustable mount is also superb. So you can stick with the ATM ir for 300 meters it’s nice and small compact and power adjustable), However Ian’s goes far beyond that. I have also now dumped the mounts that came with the ATN and now attached it via opti-lock 30mm high mounts to get rid of the Picatinny rail (old age makes you fussy!!!). The mounts that came with the ATN did NOT move a bit. So this finally is the END of my thread (for me) and so my final conclusion is:- I can’t more highly recommend Cliff at “Optical solutions” for the ATN scope, and Ian Sirrell at “irlightbuilds” for the ir. Pictures of the final set up attached.

Thanks for the posts on the 4K. I have been looking for info on the elevation / windage adjustment range on the 4K without luck. In the past I have had problems (mainly with the Photon XT) with running out of adjustment. Is there anything in the documentation or in unit the display on windage/elevation?

I’ve looked through all the paper work and I can’t find any data on the maximum range of adjustment. First, I suggest you talk to Cliff and Optical Solutions, he’s very technical as well as offering great personal service.

Secondly, when I installed the unit I checked the mounts to ensure they were parallel with the action of my rifle, and they were 100%. When I zeroed in at 200 meters I was on paper on the first shot, 2 inch to the right and 6 inch down at 8X magnification (using the unit first time out of the box). Using the one click zero (absolutely fantastic) I adjusted once and came within an inch of a postage stamp bull. I then zoomed up to 20X magnification and adjust the down to clover leafing with two final finite adjustments. This was off my cushion on the shooting platform above the cab of my pick-up, while sat down comfy on a constructed cross bench seat installed at comfortable height off the pick-up rear tub.

Having used a Photon XT myself I can’t envisage this been a problem on a ATN X-SIGHT 4K PRO 5-20X as the whole unit is in a different class.

My post was aimed towards the ATN Mars thermal scope there are better options for the big money that will be spent. The scope I recommend is nothing to do with me I have no financial gain from it. Just trying to help the chap make a better decision. If I did want to make money I would have tried to sell him a Pulsar which I deal in!!

I have now purchased a double (two) battery length Night Master Venom strike ir, really nice bit of kit, and I love the fact it’s fully and infinitely dimmable, and focusable from broad beam to pencil.

Having tried in the field many other ir’s, including Clive Wards latest, Black Sunnranger Ruby IR, I have found this Night Master superior as it is infinitely dimmable rather than just in three stages. It also appears totally waterproof due to an abundance of “O” ring seals between all removable sections.

Secondly, Night Master has a whole host of spares readily available, and different heads from conventional white and red etc, these changes to the head literally take seconds to change, so you can do it in the field.

So I can use my new ATN in colour 4 K day time mode on a silly fox 20 x magnification, and swap to ir night (black and white) mode 10 x magnification on a lamp shy fox, without changing gun, or re-zeroing the sight.

Yours actually testing out equipment. Just shot two large lamp shy dog foxes, when out last night on farrowing pig unit.

Hi Jimxyz, 1Tikka here, it’s simply rude and impropriety to suggest that I have any commercial link or deep friendship with Cliff at Optical solutions. Up to him personally demonstrating all his equipment on site, and me purchasing the ATN unit off him, I never knew of him or had heard of him.

But what I do know, is his service has be second to none, as has been the service of Tony at Night Spark Ltd (who I acquired the Picatinny rail for a Tikka 595 off) and equally mentioned him and his company in my posts.

And finally, without apologising, I equally mention Ian Sirrell’s who produces the best ir I have used, namely the Sirius XT ir that was delivered within 24 hours,

All my comments have been shared in the interest of forum members and not retailers like yourself, or any other retail with a commercial interest, so it is simply rude for you to imply otherwise.

In ending I also apologise to you personally, as on reflection, the first line of my post in response to your initial post was worded inappropriately and for that I’m sorry.

Bought one in myself as a dealer, to see what they are like. I was skeptical as I didn't get on too well with the x-sight 2, not that it didn't work but mine wasn't good at night and couldn't focus properly for good viewing, pixalated at any range.

Now, to the 4k x-sight 5-20 model...I charged it and followed the instructions to a T, I formatted my SD card and then downloaded the latest firmware to it and installed this to the scope and followed the other instructions. Not being new to the process. I didn't even bother to mount the scope... On day mode, if it was left on with the crosshairs on the screen, just having it turned on basically - it froze and did not return to a normal screen unless restarted manually. This happened every time I turned it on. Then, whilst I was going through the menu settings, if I did that instead of keeping it on the normal screen, it went blackscreen on me..same problem, need to restart it...everytime I did it. Today it has gone back to ATN and I said I wished for a refund a few days ago before sending it. I got told it would be replaced, I said no I wish for a refund and I have had no reply since but I have sent it back to them today anyway, it is of no use to me.

In no way I am taking over the post or badmouthing the gentleman's post. I do think however you need to be wary with ATN. As with the X-sight 2, I saw some good video's online, so they can be good but I feel the product quality is very hit and miss and I won't stock them or use them myself. There may well be some good ones out there but for the money they command, there is the reliable Photon's out there for way less...you have the Pulsar N355, a little more but good and for a similar price some used drone Pro's pop up. I feel those are the more reliable scopes, having used those as well, I've also been using the Pulsar thermal range and recently the Pulsar Argus gen 2.

All I'm saying is think very carefully before purchasing an ATN and be prepared to return it for repairs or replacement (for your first model) if you really want one, and just weigh up the other options. Recently I have just had my loss in faith in ATN confirmed before even going into the field with it...I won't be using their products again, current or future. I did have big hopes for the 4k range and really actually wanted it to work, the videos looked good, I liked the buttons/functionality and the scope looks nice too.

On another note, I liked the idea of a rechargable battery...but not removable? This means needing the whole gun out to charge to scope....
