New format?

I like it! The lines are cleaner and I also really like the "hover and information pops up" feature - makes it really easy to see whats under a link before you click it.

I also like the "like" addition. Thats something that was missing from the old forum format IMO, because it meant that you needed to comment in order to voice your support for something and you ended up with threads containing endless "+1!" and "Agreed" posts. Now people can just hit the like button. Sorted.

And when you type the comment box auto resizes so you can read all of your post before you hit the go button without having to scroll. AND while you're typing your reply the forum tells you if new posts have been made while you were replying and asks if you want to view them.

Yep. Like it. Lots of great usability improvements and a sleeker look and feel.

And if the upgrade is cheaper and easier to run for the admin team even better. Well done folks!

Change does not come easily and we were all to cosy with the old format.
If it wasn't working for the Admin team then it was time to move up a gear.
A lot of other forums use this layout and yes it will be a ball ache to get used to but in the long run it should benefit all of us.
Keep up the good work Admin and hopefully the complaints will die down.
Now how do I get old messages back for contact details (guess that's ball ache No1 for me).

I'm sure Alex will be along to give you chapter and verse on the new layout. Basically the old one was not fit for purpose and required constant fixing, debugging etc so the decision was mad to invest in more suitable technology. It is just as alien to me as it is to you, but I'm sure that in time it will become second nature. The bootom line is the old site needed fixing.

We all tend to be resistant to change & my first thoughts were along the lines of "if it it's not broken leave it alone".

However, having read the explanation above, I now appreciate the situation & we will get used to the new layout.

Thanks to The Admin Team for all your good work on our behalf.

The only thing I've noticed is that there are visible photographs of kills on the main page before you log in. Now I'm sure that isn't a problem to any of us but it means that the great unwashed can also see it in plain view. I wonder in this day and age if that's a mistake? I'm guessing that there is an admin security setting that may have been missed?

Thanks for that well thought out, reasoned and eloquent reply. As you said you don't pay so for free it can't be too bad.

John

You sound like that fast walking guy struggling accross the Tesco car park with tearing overly thin carrier bag's, they were also free to as you keenly observed.
Tesco made another change recently........Every Little Help's!

Good work on the new format guys , alot fresher, easier to use and more mobile friendly!
People have gotta understand this is a free forum , and if it needed an update to save admin time fixing issues then so be it.
Everyone will get used to it soon enough!

It won't remember the login for old system to the new system, there's isn't much we do about that. Once you're are on the new system it should remember you.
Just tried it after a computer restart and having to log in each visit, also the same after closing browser(Firefox).

Quick question - I like the update. Its cleaner, seems to work faster and has some useful time saving features (like the 'like' button).

So does that make me one of them 'millenials'?

Yeah, the format is designed over all screens from mobile, ipad, laptop, PC... it just shifts/resizes to fit.

Oh dear ,don't like it at all, first of all my browser could find no results for the stalking directory, when I did eventually find it , I could not log on did not recognise my password , absolute nightmare to get on took over an hour just to get on here and when I do ,its terrible.
To much hassle for an oldie like me I'm afraid.

There are a few things that are different, but if admin don't get feedback re problems, they can't look into it.
Some of the buttons in grey, don't look as if they are available, for instance.

Like many, I hate change, old system worked fine for me so as far as I'm concerned a pointless change.
But I really hated having to google the forum to find it, as my old bookmark didn't work, and that really isn't an improvement, is it.

Neil.

Under "What's new" I much prefer the layout of "New posts" to "Latest activity". I didn't find anything in profile settings to change this.

My bookmark properties had /forum at the end, so I deleted that bit, and it's fine.

It seems to have lost a lot of my posts. I can't see an easy way to find started threads and they don't appear in my posted threads. Seems that I have lost nearly six months of posts. So I am not so chuffed with the changes. I hope they get sorted. David.
