Rs62 in 30-06

Hi running out of IMR4350 and my trusty 180gr load of 56gr will no longer be happening!
Looking at alternatives I like the sound of RS62. Certainly it looks to be very close to IMR4350 on the charts. Does anyone have any experience with this in 30-06?

RS62 looks like it is about perfect. RS60 maybe very slightly better. Either should serve you well & get you over 2700ft/sec at below max pressure (assuming a 22" barrel. As always start low & work up.
I'll be doing the same load development (180 grain round nose) for my 30-06 when my current loads are run down a bit.

Thanks Ian, went with RS62 as less aggressive, claimed to be more temperature stable and kinder on barrels. My present load runs at about 2600fps and I’m more than happy with its performance so thought RS62 might give same results.
Interested to know how you get on.

Good point re-aggressive RS60. I'd forgotten that for a moment. --- Always best to be kind to a cherished barrel & 2600 will be adequate with a 180 grain lump!
Happily my rifle is very tolerant & shoots bullets, even different weights, into the same 1" group so easy to work up a load.
Will keep you posted on my findings.

Try Ramshot Big Game. It’s there 30-06 powder. I’ve been using it for some time. 4-5 years and like it a lot. Readily available and quite inexpensive. I use it under a lot 165 gr bullet.

Was using swiss rs 60 with 165 grain , but now using N150 with good affect

I am using Lovex so70 in my 30-06 to very good effect with bullets from 150-220gr

I was using H4350 in a chap's 30-06 but my stock of this powder was almost out so today tried Reloader 15 behind his 180 gr Nos Accubond. For a fist attempt with this powder was quite impressed - the 49.3 load was giving 2644 fps

Thanks for other suggestions I’ll give them some thought. Ramshot big game looks good idea. Have N150 and N160 but not sure with the heavy 180gr bullets. Lots to think about

Hi I did and both powders are at the top of their range to give 2600fps and that’s with a 24.5” barrel. Mine is a 21.5” barrel and therefore will be at the very high pressure to attain what I’m getting at the moment with my IMR4350. This is why I looked at the RS powders but Ramshot also seems to fit the bill.

It's been in the country for a couple of years now. (Whether any is in stock right now, I couldn't say.) Maximum loads of 4451 in 7X57, 30-06 size cartridges are generally slightly lower than for IMR-4350 / H4350 to give similar MVs to the IMR variety, but not as high velocities as H4350. In smaller case numbers like 6.5 Creedmoor, it seems to be the other way round with 4451 needing 1-1.5gn more powder to give the same MVs as IMR and H4350.

RS62 is a very good 4350 alternative and now that Norma has reappeared, and is a bit cheaper than IMR, Alliant Re powders too from what I'm told, Norma 204 and URP (a higher-energy variant) are excellent propelllants for this size of cartridge.

ahh not what i'v read doh , RS I had them do a chart for the 280 ack and it was on par but as said I found 4 more tubs of imr 4350 so i'll stay with it until I have to jump lol.
I had a tub of RS62 ready to go but gave it to Tris in Essex to try in his 280 ack but so far i'v had no replays on his findings ,Norm 204 hav't tried that but Norman Clark said its the next best thing out there .

I used to use 62gr RL22 with 180gr Berger, worked well but I always find the RL powders dirty. I then moved to N160 59gr.
