Shooting in Cyprus

Grand Slam

Well-Known Member
I am currently in Cyprus and will be here for the next two years or so. I have had a quick look into any shooting opportunities out here but they seem to be non existent.

Does anybody on here have any info or contacts for anyone on Island that could help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Where in Cyprus are you? I seem to recall hearing about partridge and hare hunting in the Trudos mountains, but it was about 20 years ago...

I have absolutely no idea how true any of this is but my father told me years ago that hunting is only allowed on two days a week in season, with one day being Wednesday and the other being a Sunday. Apparently all the hunters take to the hills (Trudos mountains) with vans and pickups full of mixed dogs. So look out for them on those days.
The hunting is I think limited to shotguns and is for mainly rabbits/hares and migratory birds.

Clays.....lots of them....pigeons a few, hares not many, partridges......you'll have to walk a long way for half a dozen walked up, thrushes, depends on the year but a good bag would be 3 or 4. No rifles unless its air rifles.

Shooting clays are cheaper there, both clays and cartridges

Didn't every eligible Greek Cypriot male have an automatic rifle and 200 rounds in their house to fend off those dastardly Turkish Cypriots if they tried invading again at one time? Guess possibly not now. Anyway, doesn't help with your question at all, Grand Slam, but it just popped into my mind and I found myself typing it....

Adam - pop to the Egg Club (Episkopi Garisson Gun Club?) clay ground if it’s near you and ask there. I am over next week for a fortnight, i’ll ask around too.

Thats what I have read also. I work with a few locals and after chatting with them it all seems a bit dodgy to be fair. It is also seemingly a 2000 euro fine if caught hunting where you shouldnt be, so I think i will just stick to the clays and get back on the deer when in the UK.

Cheers

Karl,

Cheers mate. It is literally 2 minutes from where I work so will pop down when it is next open.

They are a good bunch in there, I try and get down every time I am across, you may have been there with decompression before?

As a kid I lived out there for a few years, a long time ago. I remember hearing stories of the locals shooting the small birds (sparrow size) with dust-shot cartridges, regardless of what they were, hopefully they have tightened up somewhat!

Good luck in the hunt to find some shooting, persevere - you can find things in the wildest corners of the world so hopefully Cyprus will have something.

I was there for 3 years about 12 years ago. Doubt it’s changed much. Got invited “hunting” with some of the local blokes I worked alongside. Basically bouncing over the bondhu piled in the back of pickups shooting at sparrows with a half fkd Baikals. Then there was the hare hunters which seemed to be let beagle cross mongrels just do what they want and everyone shoots at what they want, and if the dog doesn’t come back they just leave it. I valued my life and freedom more than a day out so I had a 3 year break from shooting, did a bit of fishing and got p**sed up.
