Importing Shotgun from Cyprus

Hi everyone

Need a little bit of advice, I want to take my grandads shotgun back to the Uk

Now the gun dealer in Cyprus can fill out all the paperwork and ship the gun to Heathrow airport, where he told me I would need a gun dealer in the Uk to collect from Heathrow

But is that true? Can I not collect the gun myself ?

The only other way I can bring the shotgun back to the Uk with least amount of headache is if me and my grandad travel to the UK together (he will fill out paperwork that the gun is being exported so he can get the necessary paperwork to take the gun on the plane and I’ll take over ownership in the UK I’ll sign the gun to my license before we travel)

Any help appreciated

Just a update on this spoke to my local RFD he says if I sign the shotgun in my name on my uk license I’ll be able to collect from Heathrow but they are expensive if they have the gun for more than a day and knowone really tells you it’s there you have to run around finding it out, so best bet it to fly back with my grandad in November (when he comes over) as it’s a much more straight forward process

I brought a firearm in from Germany, and was told by Borderforce that an import agent needed to be appointed to collect/import the firearm. I used PBS freight, who is a RFD and an import agent. I was charged all incl. around £500ish, which could be cheaper if you shipped to LGW, where they are based. I shipped to LHR, assuming their LHR office could do it also, apparently the RFD is at LGW. On top of that had to pay VAT, which was the biggest chunk.

Is your grandfather a resident in Cyprus? If so, would it be possible for him to get a Visitor Shotgun Permit and take the gun as personal luggage? Whilst in the UK, he could transfer it to you?

Yes he could do that but I’m due to go back to Cyprus in March for a family wedding and will travel back with him (my grandfather does 8 months in Cyprus and 4 in England)

Would it be possible for your grandfather to sign it onto your SGC in Cyprus then you bring it back? Obviously check with your FEO before
I have checked Cyprus won’t allow me to carry on the shotgun on the plane. They even advised me the easiest way to do it is sign the shotgun in my name. Me and my grandad travel together (so in Cyprus he is carrying it) and soon as we land in UK it’s mine.
