Pulsar Apex XQ50 LRF. RANGEFINDER WORKING WITH FIRING RETICULE - NOT IN USER MANUAL!

Found something really useful by accident with recent purchase of Pulsar Apex XQ50 LRF, using it primarily as a spotter with LRF with my .223.

By selecting SCAN in LRF mode, the main firing reticule (cross-hairs) is replaced with the square of LRF.
Now select BLACK Hot mode and the WHITE firing reticule appears - superimposed over the LRF square in scanning mode.
Now switch back to the WHITE Hot mode and the BLACK reticule appears - again superimposed over the LRF square in scanning mode.
I now have LRF in scanning mode WITH the firing reticule, excellent for multiple (rabbits) or moving targets - even switching the PIP on still functions.


Maybe I've the latest software? But this is brilliant!

If you have the PIP function enabled, you have the full field of view at native magnification, when the rangefinder is enabled as you say the ranging box is in the centre of the screen, but your crosshairs are visible on the PIP screen to take the shot, so best of both worlds.

Yes, correct!
Using the sequence described, I now have the Main firing reticule at 2.8magnification with the LRF square in SCAN mode in the centre of the viewing screen, the PIP at 5.6magnification being in the top of viewing screen - it's what I have been searching/hoping for since Thermal became "affordable?" Having this function makes the APEX an even bigger bargain IMHO.
Wonder if this "quirk" works with the newer "Trail LRFs?

With Fox cubs showing in the next couple of months it will be invaluable in determining distance to target, re:- layoff and holdover. ( I zero at 200yards)
Over an open field, looking at the thermal screen, a small cub at 80yards can appear the same size as a large dog fox at 300 yards; the LRF takes the guesswork out of the equation.
With the existing Ward WT 75/3 thermal scope on my T3 .223, I'm convinced I'll be more efficient with culling foxes this year on the Game Shoot.
