DMQ Wild boar qualification

ASQ...... armchair stalker qualification!!!!
.....Cleary achieved by some on here before they post on this site lol!... .after all ...... it seems the few who are slagging off training and expanding one's knowledge base and telling everyone how much stalking they have and not needing qualifications and such like, seem to spend more time posting stuff on SD than actually out in the field!....

I personally think this boar qualification can't come to effect until boar have a proper Season and minimum legal caliber etc... legislation in other words..
With no legislation there is no grounding for a qualification.

A question.
.... WHO in the DMQ head office has shot enough wild boar In the uk and has the experience and sound enough knowledge and "expertise" on their biology to be able to write the requirements of the qualification??......
We actually could learn all we need about their biology etc from books by Dr. Goulding et al..... and the internet has tons of info on shot placement etc..

Bottom line is...... if someone has boar on their ground and want them shot but also want whoever's is shooting them to have a recognised qualification, there will be people who will do the qualification to enable them to shoot boar.
 
Can they make much money on a boar course. There’s isn’t many places to shoot them in comparison to deer.
The Forest of Dean boar, are they on forestry land or private that you see on the adverts here? I would like to go and shoot one. Mainly for the eating. That’s my main drive with deer. They taste nice and I like seeing what my food source is like start to finish.
 
So, I am amazed at how many have said boar are un regulated and it should stay that way! that stinks as a attitude. Boar should be treated with respect and not as a target. They are seriously abused by British hunters and it time they were regulated the same as deer. Then if someone is caught doing wrong they can be prosecuted. Do I think there should be a BSc , no I don't. But I am rapidly starting to think that there should be national certs for all forms of hunting, that need to be taken before someone is allowed to shoot any living creature. Some of the things Ive seen in the field, and I not alone, a just wrong.

Well it’s ****ing it down so no stalking till Sunday for me I’m afraid !

Interesting you say how are they qualified to give us courses on boar and say there’s plenty of books and other stuff out there but not the same for deer .....

DMQ was established late 90's? So someone that took dsc1 then and has worked full time in the industry since that date is not a pro stalker because he did start his career prior to the qualification ?

There is no substitute for time served in the field but how would a novice know right from wrong without the basics. Even pro stalkers don't t always get it right! I'm not saying it should mandatory ......... just keeping an open mind!
 
As I've been shooting for over seventy years I have a rather different view of the whole matter of qualifications, certification, licences etc. having lived in times when these sort of things didn't exist. We learnt from others, from the few books that were around at the time but by and large we taught ourselves and to be honest we learned what was necessary to produce decent quality meat of varying types that was sold to butchers if it wasn't well presented it wasn't accepted so we learned to do the job properly pretty quickly.
I fully understand things have changed over the years but on a slightly different tack, when I was keepering and managing land for shooting, the only two people who I had to remove had both taken theirDSC1 and one had done the DSC2. One of them was the most dangerous person with a gun I had ever come across! He had a piece of paper, thought he knew it all, but no experience, but worst of all wouldn't be told.
From the days when most shooting was free, licensing as we know it today was non-existentI look at the situation today when for the first time I see restrictions and legislation slowly but surely tightening the noose on our sport, those of us on here who are of a similar age to myself will know exactly what I mean. The whole way of life in the countryside has changed out of all recognition, fifty years ago in the village where I live people would tell me where they had seen deer, rabbits, pheasants etc. Today people phone the police if they hear a couple of gunshots!
I am not against change, it happens but as an old man, I see in many cases the shooting fraternity being its own worst enemy and in some instances submitting tamely to the anti brigade who seem to be succeeding where we are failing. All very sad.

I wasnt saying how qualified they are ..... I was just asking if THEY had enough experience an knowledge to be able to write a boar qualification ......

What it's worth....... I worked for a government agency carrying out research on wild boar...... and due to circumstances I wont go into I'm likely the only person in the uk who knows how to manually restrain an agitated boar sow that weighs more than I do....... I think I might make a new WBHQ..... wild boar headlock qualification ......

I say in all sincerity that there would definitely be a few on here that would argue for and indeed pay for the WBHQ , not a doubt in my mind

Couldn't agree me levi. They will become regulated and hopefully before Packman or the likes force it on us. Lets get in front of the drag curve eh. Cry me a river if you like but don't be surprised when someone stops you because you're not qualified.
Half the people moaning and groaning on here will not even shoot a boar so are unaffected, however, they just love to vent their spleens.

There is no such thing as a Pro DSC1. If you want one, just make one up and print it off. It will be worth the same as the one you would get on a course, but would Not cost you ££££££

So that's a terribly arrogant stance. There a a few people I know who would disprove you and I dare say a few I dont know.
 
Until the BMQ material is formalised and adopted universally by the stalking community, I wonder if we could obtain early clarification on whether or not the rescinding of GL16 prevents me from hunting the following?

I didnt mention a pro dsc1!

You implied that you could only be a professional if you started your career prior to the dsc1 being created.

As you don't know the circumstances as to why I had to restrain the agitated animal I suggest you don't class it as arrogance......I potentially saved a work colleague from life threatening injuries by my actions..no arrogance..... just instinct and a sound knowledge of the animal and livestock handling and restraint in general.
No person or animal was harmed.....
If you feel I shouldn't of taken action and let a female colleague get her leg seriously bitten and gouged by 3 inch long tusks and maybe worse..... then I'm sure you're the one who could be classed as arrogant an have others not like it.

And as for the rest of my post......light heartedness and nothing more.

The French also have stringent training and testing arrangements in place too, which are very similar to the German and various Scandinavian schemes. It is necessary to pass the written examination and practical tests in order to obtain a Permis de Chasse. I don't know anything about the Italian system.
 
I really don't know why you're all getting so upset. BASC will be along any minute to tell us all how they're fighting our corner. Any minute.
