RSPB who does their shooting Mr Packham

I am sure I was one of many shooters interested in the outcome of the Freedom of information request served on the RSPB. Below is a cut and paste of the basic facts

The RSPB has killed more than 8000 animals* in the name of conservation over a five year period.
1715 Crows, 1760 Foxes, 508 Fallow Deer, 160 Muntjac Deer, 2008 Red Deer, 1734 Roe Deer, 906 Sika Deer.......

They also shot/killed an unknown number of rabbits, unknown as they don’t keep records for these, I can only assume rabbits are seen as not worthy of recording

Given the scale of the 8000+ I see the RSPB as one the largest shooting organisations in the country. I am interested in is who does all this shooting for them, are they registered do they have any qualifications DSC etc. I have never met or heard from anyone doing shooting on RSPB land so I assume they are all members of a secret lodge or they signed an NDA or both. Someone should ask Mr Packham as deputy president of the RSPB if he realises he is in one of the larges shooting groups in the U.K. the next time he is interviewed

Anyone on the forum ever been involved in the 8000+ cull ?

I used to shoot on the RSPB reserves in Kent, no secret society involved but it had to be done sundays before 10am

Certainly those numbers are not insignificant and they should be pressed to disclose who is carrying out these culls. It seems P and his cohorts have been using the previous general licence for their own ends but not happy for everyone else to do so.

I know the guy who is contracted to shoot foxes on an RSPB reserve in North East Scotland.
They bought him a thermal spotter and thermal scope for his rifle so that he could carry out the contract "efficiently"
PS rabbits are regarded as a pest species.
All landowners are required by law to control them although, to my knowledge, no-one has ever been prosecuted for failing to control them

Cheers

Unsurprising they consider rabbits pests, anything without feathers is inconsequential to RSPB

Regarding rabbits - the law regards rabbits as pests and requires ALL landowners to control them, so as much as I dislike the RSPB, they are merely complying with the law when it comes to controlling rabbits on their land

Regarding rabbits - the point is that ALL landowners are required by law to control rabbits not just the RSPB

I'm not disagreeing with that, just stating that the SRPB don't give a sh*t about any wildlife other than birds

There was a small syndicate that shot over farmland near Lydd. We used to drive the lydd air field and the nearby RSPB reserve 4 time a year. There would be anything up to 10 guns and all vermin was shot, then there was a rule change and we were allowed to shoot Foxes and Crows, then another change and foxes only. Finally when there was a warden change they stopped us altogether. There was never an agreed number to be culled it was shoot as many as possible. We got good bags, always started well and the last drives of the winter produced the smallest numbers as can be expected.

Interesting, from what you say it seems there was little management strategy more the whims of whoever was in charge.

When the RSPB took over forsinard they got contractors in to try and remove as many deer as possible. It caused a lot of heart ache and upset to the locals. The deer went into the woodland when the weather was harsh, they hammered them, not for one minute thinking about the fact that these deer roamed across the neighbouring estates where stalkers were employed!. 0The cut most of the trees down and removed them or mulched.

I know the area well and have travelled through Forsinard on my way to my stalking for many years, it always amused me how almost every property had a sign saying RSPB not welcome, they are pretty much hated in the area, and deservedly sothey don't care about what the locals want just intent on a continual land grab.

If anyone is interested, type in "Chris Packham, Deer, Culling and Nightingale" into your search engine and enjoy ! (The Times May 21st 2019)

More hypocritical than Michael "Pass the Charlie" Gove ?

Are you for real jer? Would you be happy for your details to be plastered all over social media as a deer killer and firearms holder? I know that I wouldn't!
