Wanted: Africa advice/suggestions

So, having been to Namibia a couple of years ago, the itch to return is starting to need addressing.
But where to go? From what I’ve been told by the place we went to last time Namibia is suffering massively with drought, and it was pretty hard going in terms of scarce game when we were there so if that’s even worse now I’m thinking Namibia is out.
Not a fan of fenced ranches in SA, I appreciate some are the size of British counties so wouldn’t rule it out, but where would others suggest?
Plains game, to include Kudu and eland ideally this time.
Suggestions please!

I’m just back from Namibia this morning. I can honestly say out of 6 trips there this was the best. We were a mere 1/2 an hour from the airport, Omitara, but in the middle of nowhere. Game was plentiful,we saw or hunted warthog,impala,red Hartebeest, blue Wildebeest, zebra,oryx, roan, eland, giraffe,ostrich, steenbok, duiker,jackals,baboon. I may have overlooked a couple of species.
True Namibia is suffering a drought and the grasses are very poor to nonexistent this year. However some areas had rain, not as much as needed for grass but some. Most water on farms come from boreholes.A lot of culling is being done to reduce the pressure on the wildlife. So there are good opportunities for hunters.
We were further north in April, Grootfontein and between Outjo and Kamanjab. The situation up there was dire. Where last year in May I walked through knee high grass it was now a dust bowl.

Yeah we were in the Erongo mountains and I’ve had it from the owner that things are pretty dire currently. Interested in possibly discovering somewhere altogether different now, preferably with a good smattering of game...!

Good numbers of Kudu and Eland in Niassa, Mozambique. Not as big trophies as say SA or Namibia if that's what you want, but way wilder hunting. Also PG only found there such as Niassa Wildebeest, quite a few Lichtenstein Hartebeest and a lot of Sable. As I say one of the last true wildernesses, like stepping into Jurassic Park. Cave paintings etc in the Inselbergs The hunting blocks are huge, a million hectares plus. A bit of a b*gger to get to but well worth it in my opinion

Shikar's suggestion is excellent I've been to Cameroon a few times for Lord Derby Eland, Western Savannah Buffalo and Lion, the hunting takes place in pristine wilderness conditions it is such a stark contrast from when you leave the hunting blocks to the populated areas there is literally a line where the bush and game ends

niassa-reserve-northern-mozambique Garth is good, Been in Niassa with him a couple of times
Derek Littleton, Luwire Safaris - hunted elephant (no more) buffalo, croc and lion with him as well as PG. Closest hunting block to Pemba, About 1hr 45 mins by charter

Trouble with Botswana is the extortionate cost for getting your trophies home

I'm off to Namibia in September. I prefer to look for and go for smaller operations that are family owned and run and are not the grandee outfitters that everyone goes to because of reputation.
This year I am hunting to the north of the country, not far south of Etosha with Eureka Hunting Safaris.
I have seven days hunting for Kudu, Mountain Zebra, Impala, Springbok and Baboon with the possibility of Warthog, Klipspringer, Dik-Dik and Jackal if time and opportunity presents itself.
After the hunting I have three days fishing on the Skeleton Coast as part of my package.
The outfitter has only been operating for three years on their farm so very new but they offer good deals, the reports I have read on them are very positive so I'm looking forward to it immensely.

Been to SA 4 times and enjoyed it but went to Bamibia and thought it was epic. I would strongly recommend Aru safaris family run outfit the great part of the trip was they have two separate reserves one more desert and flat the other in the mountains both less than two hours from Windhoek. The lodges are 4 star all the hunting is walk and stalk you can do trophies or cull stuff. PM me if you want more detail

I used have run many many trips fishing to Namibia. We stopped fishing for the sharks over a decade ago due to the terrible impact of Chinese and Japanese long liners. I would be very interested to hear how you get on. I sincerely hope you bring back good news!!

Went to Luangwa valley in Zambia last September, as I wanted to experience the real Africa, we were not disappointed! Fantastic and challenging area to hunt, shot cull impala, bushbuck, kudu and a good sized warthog. PM me if you would like details.
