Looking for a teckle stud

Hey I'm looking to put my teckle bitch in pup. She's a cracking dog, apple of my eye, she'll beat, pick up, works great in a pack, rats and rabbits not to mention holds the cows at bay for me. Iv already got at least 5 pups sold. She due to come in heat in December.
I'm not bothered about papers and pedigree since she doesn't have any, I'm simply striving for a great working litter.

Our boy has sired one lovely litter.

5 pups already sold,,,unknown lines on the dam,and without even confirming the sire,, boy they must be some real dog experts. sorry but just calling how I see it.

Yep, nothing like keeping high standards in dog breeding. The working teckle breed will soon be going the same way as the Bavarian. Still won't be long before someone on here tells us how great there Lab x teckle is and everybody will want one.

So a guy buys a teckel without papers and it develops to the stage where it will.....beat, pick up, works great in a pack, rats and rabbits not to mention holds the cows at bay.......Why wouldn't you want to breed from it? I am a great advocate of knowing the ancestry inside out. A working pedigree 'should' give you more predictability, but I see no sin in a guy wanting to breed from a good worker without papers?

Having read your posts i get the impression that you have put a lot of effort into sourcing your teckles and a lot of time into getting them to a good tracking standard. So many people have a dog that is their pride and joy and can do magical things in their eyes. Often the truth is that their dog is only mediocre at best. How long did it take the Bavarian breed to go down hill once it reached the UK.
It won't be to long before the working teckle follows the same path. Would you buy one of his pups?

What's your opinion on the Patterdale terrier, they still aren't recognised by the kennel club and yet they are one of the best earthing terriers you can get? The papers don't make the dog. Unlike a lot of people on this forum who sound like only hunt at the weekends, I actually live and work country, I need a dog with versatility that can both work on the farm with livestock or sitting in the tractor as well as bend itself around my lifestyle as well as behave and work on a shoot or go stalking.

I have no opinion on Patterdale terriers as my knowledge of them is limited. I do recall a mate of mine had one that was quite a character and ate the leather part of his Lundhag boots. Teckles on the other hand i know a bit about and have had teckles for hunting, thats proper hunting, and trained for tracking. I also know a bit about livestock and handling cattle. I'm a dab hand at hoof trimming cattle ready for showing. I even own my own tractor and live about as deep in the countryside as a man can live. I have worked spaniels for nearly 50 years and own my hunting ground. What could i possibly know about the countryside, dogs and hunting?

Guys.....There is no need for a cock measuring competition. Let's be grown up!

So-called 'papers' ( I really hate the term 'papers') don't make dogs. I am an advocate of national registration but I also believe these bodies could do far more to improve the quality of dog breeds. I promote the KC but also expect them to do far more - you can only change from within. Registration aids data collection, which can be used to promote health and welfare. I promote the UK Teckel Society, based more on what Trevor, Brenda and Nick did in the past - more could certainly be done in the future.

Pedigrees aid predictability of type/character/capability and are of obvious use for breeding plans.

The initial post from Suki reminds me of my uncle's situation. In the 70's he shot pigeons semi-professionally (MAFF payouts) and picked up all week during the season. His Labs were superb, they had no papers and he didn't give two hoots about pedigrees. He was offered £400 on the spot for one of his dogs at a shoot in the late 70's - obviously, it wasn't accepted. I have yet to own any dog as good as his.

Would I buy one of Suki's pups, if sired by my Hendrix? Currently no, as I would want the pup to potentially enter our breeding plan - KC reg and full pedigree. If I had no concerns for future breeding plans I certainly would consider it if the dam was as good as has been mentioned.

I just got the ruler out and had a quick measure. I can only say you would not want it on the end of your nose as a wart.
The UK KC does leave a bit to be desired when you compare it to many European KC's when it comes to hunting dogs. There are a lot of shows for hunting dogs in Sweden. Showing is part of getting your dog up to a hunting/ tracking champion. As i understand it there are not that many working Teckles in the UK and there are people who import quality working stock from main land Europe. Why put all that effort into keeping a high standard when anyone can breed teckles on just there own judgement. If i want a certain type of hunting dog then I'll research that breed and look into the best lines and breeders. I won't be going to someone who thinks he has a great working non pedigree dog. There are other things to look at besides working ability.
I had a English bred Springer spaniel that was the best spaniel I've ever had. A chap on the shoot wanted to use him as a stud dog but i refused because much as i loved that dog there was something wrong with him, something that you could not put your finger on but just knew. After a few years i heard that all his litter siblings had serious health issues.
Like most of what i write on here its just my opinion so me and my massive penis will leave it at that ;)

my view is you might get one good dog from an unknown origin that is no reason for breeding, you dont know the history of the rest or if there are serious faults back in the line, now take a dog that has been performance bred for over 100 years and you know every dog passed recognized tests and health checks and all is good these are the dogs to breed from, that is why it is performance breeding and you know what you will end up with and this is fact not i think that might turn out ok or just a money racket and passed off as a great dog, the uk for most of it this is lost and the only thing that ever comes back is dick waving and being elitist which is a crock it's just looking after a breed and truly having that to heart, regards wayne
when dogs are bred in the original breed society's each dog that is put together is done for a reason to further the breed not for any other reason

I do not disagree with any of that. But nor would I knock a guy who wants to breed from his bitch that has proven a very good all-round worker. As I have said, he will not have the predictability nor history - that is the risk he will take.

I agree with most of that Wayne - not sure if you can hand on heart say that you KNOW exactly what you will end up with but it certainly gives you the best shot at knowing. The stringent breeding regime is perfect provided the gene pool is wide enough to avoid too much close breeding - maybe not now but something that can happen some time down the road.

I can tell you for sure, that every dog out of a performance bred litter is going to be far better and it is proven to work this is why they are strict on the breeding program, I have a meeting in nov for ISHV with all the other country's involved with HS and this system hands down is worth keeping tight breeding rules for the welfare of the dogs, here in the uk HS is already going down the pan with people breeding for money, they are moving on from BGS now they have fubarred them.

What a hoohah about dogs. When I started as a keeper the boss's ex batman(now gardner) had some of the best spaniels I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot. I asked their breeding and was told "If I like the look of a dog, I use it on my bitches".
To him a spaniel was just that and in his breeding there was Springer, Cocker,Field spaniel and Clumber. Obviously they had no papers and just one command. When he blew his police whistle they came back. To see 4 or 5 of them demolishing briers 5 yds in front of the line was amazing.
IMHO papers have done more to ruin dogs than anything. If I had to buy a puppy I always bought from someone with the hardest working dog I saw rather than one with 20 ftch's in it's pedigree.

I see where you're coming from, and every lurcher I ever had was bred the same, however my original statement [#3]was not about that, It was the op stated there were 5 pups already sold and no body knows jack tish about the sire, or any potential hidden faults it may or may not have. short of having a bloody crystal ball how the sam hell would they know what they were getting.??

I truly admire that dedication.
