Hunting and fishing shops in Stockholm

Hello everyone.

I'm going to Stockholm for work next week and I'll have some free time on Monday afternoon. I'll do my usual thing of exploring around on foot as much as I can, but I thought that if my route could take me via a few interesting shops, so much the better! I know there are at least a couple of Swedish residents on here so I thought I'd ask your advice. A quick look has pulled up the following within maybe ten minutes walk of my hotel:

Both look like places that could damage my credit card. Especially given that it will be my birthday.

I could also use a recommendation on where to go for dinner on Monday evening if anyone has local knowledge!

Thanks!

I've been in Widforss. OK gun shop but not overly special. Walter Borg I've not been to but should be OK. Shame you don't have more spare time in Sweden. A bit of a journey from Stockholm a visit to my LGS, the best in Sweden is always worth a look. They have mini gun show at the end of the month where many of their larger suppliers have their goods on display and normally some good deals on odds and sods

Baron Frederik von Essen had a dog equipment store there. His father was the kings hunting guide for the yearly elk hunt near Trollhatten I used to use his clay ground 50kms north of Stockholm when I worked there in 1999.

Just asked some Swedish shooting friends and the advice is that if you want to buy, go to the outskirts and to just window shop anywhere central. And that's coming from the locals......

If you google you will find something but there will only be small places..... no Cabelas type stores

I know but it's a work trip. I had to take an early flight as the others were full, so I hopefully have a bit of time to myself on Monday, but after that I lose control of my agenda...

No paper work if you can hire a rifle. email or ring and they will give you the info.
That is a 10m taxi from the airport.... Ooooh that's tempting. Need to make up a reason for why I'm not travelling with my colleagues. Family or something. I mean I have Swedish ancestors. From the 30 year war. That will do.

Just tell them your going too the cinema to see a Swedish film ;)

It turned out the meeting venue is adjacent to Widross. They're very upmarket, all Rigby and Purdey stuff. Decent gun selection, and I had a chance to handle one of the new Rigby rifles in 375, and had a good chat about the 4Stable Sticks I'd like to buy (and hope appear in a birthday present!). Up the road, I went to Walter Borg which has a much wider selection of everything, and is more about hunting that lifestyle. I was good to see a teenager being kitted out by his mother in the run up to the moose season! They had a huge selection of cartridges, as well as reloading gear, I've never seen anything like it in the UK. Also a wide selection of rifles to browse and do some research for my friend in Canada who's finally taken the leap after a few years and obtained his hunting licence there (I may have nudged his wife to sign him up on the course...).

More widely though, my Swedish colleagues presented a slide on Sweden as bit of an icebreaker, and prominent on it was the fact that there are 400k moose in Sweden, that 100k are shot every year by 250k hunters, of which my colleague's husband. Superb to see that so prominent! A little maths reveals of course that about 2.5% of Swedes are hunters, compared to maybe 0.1% in the UK and maybe 1% in France. Indeed, I had moose and reindeer stew for lunch!

I'll post a few pictures later.

Trophy wall from Widforss, the rest from Walter Borg.
