Ammo belt plates for Big Game

I have been making a few leather items, firstly for myself and something to do and then for a few friends and folk on here.

That has been including but not limited to stuff like ammo wallets, phone wallets for friends, card wallets and stuff like that. Then some bolt holsters and some other bits and pieces. Then a forum member asked if I could make a plain belt mounted ammunition holder for larger calibres more suited to bigger game hunting. I put together something for him for his .375H&H and he was happy with it.

A friend also showed an interest and so a couple more were put together. Not sure if this is something that would appeal to anyone reading this section of the forum but feel free to message me if this would be of use to you. I have tried to encourage a bend in the item to have it mate to the belt/waist nicely with all edges rounded off and burnished to a very very smooth finish so hopefully it would be as comfortable as possible to wear in what I imagine are fairly brutal conditions. I do not hunt in places like Africa myself so have no idea what is particularly suitable, so any practical improvements/suggestions you feel would improve things would be welcome.

The one below is based on a .375H&H case so would suit all cases using similar dimensions but if you send me an empty case I can make whatever you like. I try to make them so only the first half of the thinner taper of the case goes in to the loop, providing a snug fit but ample case left at the head/primer end to grab and hoik out if the cartridges you have in the rifle are not enough (eeeek)

Very nice If I may I would suggest that the depth is slightly less so the head of the case stands proud of the top of the leather by about 1/2" You want to be able to grab and pull quickly If you do double rifle calibers I would make the loops in pairs to assist further rapid reloading

Good point - the rounds do stick up with mine - but then they are dinosaur rounds

PS - love shIkar's idea of making the loops in pairs for double rifles

They are pretty much made to order so I can make them in whichever way individuals feel would suit them best. The loops are made to really hang on to the round when pushed right in but if not pushed in so far, you will have something to hang on to and be able to extract them more easily. Leather will give after use as well, so they are made that way with that i mind.

I cannot recall to be honest but I have a friend who had a 6 round .375 ammo plate, so I will ask him to measure it and will come back to you.

@Redneck k had a 5 round one, so maybe he could have a quick measure up and let you know about that one. Length wise (as in dependent on how many rounds it holds) there would be no real ability to make them small but the depth measurement could be made to suit you within reason. It has to be deep enough to allow for your belt dimension but if you have a particularly small belt, it could be as little as 2.5inches deep. Most belts are 1.75ish inches, so in reality, it would probably be nearer 3inches but these ones were probably in the region of about 3.50" from memory. Length wise I will guess at about 4-4.5inches and obviously the more rounds you add, the longer they get

Hi Folks

The 375 ammo belt holder that Cottis made for me measures 100mm long depth of 90mm with the belt holes tailored for me at 50mm.

This is to hold 5 rounds.

These are now no longer available I am afraid. I made the last one yesterday for a customer and have to get back to doing other things in life now.

I have been amazed at the popularity of the various things I have offered in leather over the last few weeks. I am grateful for the support, kind comments and words of experience that people have offered but I never intended for it get so busy ha ha ha. I might do a few more in the new year and start up Trade Membership again for small portions of the year but for now, I need to get back to hunting, cycling and golf.

Ok so for a few more weeks I am back doing these again if anyone wants one.

You can specify your own spec, thread colour, capacity, size of belt slats etc so it suits your approach.
